KOTOR 1 widescreen
i read the previous discussion. but after all - the whole tweaking - editing etc . was kind of enoying - and in the end - it didnt work.

maybe it worked on the authors computer just fine, but i remembered a way - a view years ago.

there is a tool called UniWS.

step 1. download the tool on
http://www.wsgf.org/article/universal-widescreen-uniws-patcher

step 2. download the latest patch 1.03 on
https://www.fileplanet.com/137839/download/Star-Wars:-Knights-of-the-Old-Republic-v1.03-Patch-

step 3. you need to get a no cd exe. gamecopyworld etc.

step 4. after patching the game with 1.03 - rename the original kotor.exe (kotor_org.exe) and use / copy the no cd kotor.exe in the folder.

step 5. start UniWS and choose kotor - resolution doesnt matter - i used 1600x1200. because of the supported UI. u can redo the patch and start it with a lower resolution - it will change the UI in the game. so maybe u have to test it once or twice - or just take it as i did with 1600x1200.

now you downloaded the tool, patched the game to 1.03 . used the nocd kotor.exe . patched the kotor.exe with UniWS - now you should be able to play the game.

step 6. go to the the grafic options and change the game resolution to 1920x1080. worked just fine the first time i did it.

have fun guys. be in touch. may the force be with you.

edit :
you have turn off "soft shadows" if the game crashes after starting the game.

How to apply a widescreen patch
Search google and download fixed Knights of the Old Republic v1.03 EXE. Which is just the exe with SecuROM removed.Then patch the resolution with UniWS: https://www.wsgf.org/articlde/universal-widescreen-uniws-patcher

How to improve HUD resolution
Once you have your desired resolution working properly, here are some GUI/HUD fixes. Do note that the below won't work if you are using the steam executable, you must have either GoG-version or the No-CD cracked exe:

listed in the order you should install them:
  1. https://deadlystream.com/files/file/1173-k1-main-menu-widescreen-fix/
  2. https://deadlystream.com/files/file/1213-hd-npc-portraits/

Here is preview of what the HUD/GUI should look like at 1440p:

I'm not aware of a mod that has HD equipment icons. If someone knows of one please tell me.

I fixed the issue by checking off V-sync in swconfig,exe. I'm using it with UNIWS of course.

is it possible to increase the size of all text and dialogs?

Sorry to Necro an old post, the UNIWS download page no longer exists
i also need a 2025 updated guide to KOTOR compatibility. Most of the links are dead.
A Win10 and WIn11 guide for 2025 is needed

Actually, there is 'some' guides in the 'Guides' section that are more recent / up-to-date for use with Win 10 / 11. There's also a more recent thread here talking about this very subject and has one post linking a patcher that will apply the UniWS patch for you. I imagine if it's all done correctly, you 'could' get widescreen working for you. I just never had much luck with it... except once upon a time--no clue what I did differently in that instance. So, I just play it at 1024x768 (games default res settings) and deal with it. There are some compatibility settings you need to set up on the games exe ofc. That info is also listed in the more recent Widescreen discussion.

Edit: Also... just go to 'DeadlyStream' for all your KotOR mods. There maybe a few on Nexus that aren't found on DeadlyStream and vice versa.

Also see this;

Also, this discussion--which I bumped;
