Does DEX chance to hit bonus not show up for melee weapons?

I'm messing around with different builds, starting out with 18 DEX 10 STR only shows a +3 chance to hit with proto vibro blade at the beginning of a new game.

18 STR 10 DEX shows a +7

All over the googles, It's widely knows/accepted chance to hit comes from either STR or DEX, whichever is higher.

All I can assume is ither the chance to hit from DEX does not get displayed properly, or the bonus from high DEX is not as good as the chance to hit bonus from STR.

Can anyone chime in and educate me on this?

I think I found the correct answer on an obscure and old GameFaqs thread. There it says only light sabers can make use of DEX chance to hit bonus and not normal blades/swords.

Is that accurate?

Your chance to hit is your attack which is Dex mod for 18 thats 4+base attack bonus+ any bonus from feats or mods & finally the d20 which is auto rolled by the game each time you attack.

Lights sabers are the only 1 that use dex for both damage & attack otherwise I believe dex can still be used for attack on vibroblades just not damage.

In K1 all melee weapons except lightsabers use STR for both attack and damage. Lightsabers use STR for damage and the highest of STR and DEX for attack.

So if I go high(ish) DEX, would it be worth it to make STR 10 or keep it at 8? Idk if the -1 STR modifier at 8 is that much of a difference from a 0 modifier or not

Depends on what you want. If you go for ranged character, you don't need STR at all. If you go melee - you'll have harder time until you get lightsaber with low STR, but other than that you can leave it at 8 if you have better use for 2 stat points.

^ cheers. yeah i'll just go with blasters on taris so i'll leave STR at 8
