Update to a 2003 game?
What are the chances for small hidden changes in scripts and non-spoken dialogue to make transition to the remake less jarring?
Makes you think huh.
I stick to my disk version and fan patches thank you.

I have a retail copy from 2003 but I lost CD 1. :( Ended up buying it on GoG later on, which it's perfectly fine there, mod-friendly and never overwrites the EXE after I do the widescreen mod like Steam does.

Still, I wish I could find that CD 1.

I didn't see any updates on Linux. Searched Steam logs for the appid, nothing interesting.

grep -Rh '32370' ~/.local/share/Steam/logs | sort

Just normal messages about Steam cloud due to playing the game.

I don't have Kotor2 installed, but if both got such tiny updates, maybe it's some metadata change.

They can't do that. This game is twenty years old and it's not written by Aspyr, the company doing the remake. They wouldn't be able to patch it. Plus, they're making a remake because they want to make new sales, not patch a game people already bought.

Plus, we already paid for this game as it was when completed by Bioware. If Steam somehow managed to patch this game with elements of the new one, they'd have to be prepared to refund 100% of the sales they received from players who already bought and were quite happy with the original KOTOR.

There are examples of old games receiving new patches, removing/censoring content.
Fallout 2 is good example.

Strange, but now I got the 32Kb update again :cleanseal:

Yeah, I've been getting small updates too.

Yesterday I got a small, 50 kilobyte update.
Today, I got a slightly larger one at almost twice the size. 89 kilobytes.

Patch notes are nonexistent for these tiny updates.

Something's going on. But the question is, what?

After a change in game development company though?

And twenty years later?

I suppose I wouldn't put it past TPTB to pull a stunt like this but I don't think it would be practical. Plus, the point of them trying to do a rehash/remake is to make money. They won't get money if they just spend millions on hacking out the amusing bits, replacing it with politically correct nonsense, and then try to patch a game only some of us have kept fondly playing all these years.

For Fallout 2 it was 10 years later. Same thing if you ask me.

Just got a 445 KB update. WTF are they doing to the game?
