Kotor black screen on startup and during gameplay

I've noticed that many have had this issue. Some threads have not found a definitive solution, others have but their solutions have not worked in my case. In short, the game starts up with a black screen. I can get an image of the main menu if I try relaunching the game multiple times, but in any case after the first cutscene the screen goes black again even though the game is still technically running. I'm running no mods whatsoever and have not had this problem until today. My laptop has an i5 6200 and intels integrated graphics. Not really a gaming beast but it runs older games just fine. Any help for this issue would be appreciated.

I have problems like this too. Especially when traveling from one planet to another the screen will just go black and I can't do anything. I have to try over and over and over again to actualy get to fly from one planet to another, then just getting off the ship can set it off too.

Try alt-tabbing multiple times. It takes me about 3-4 tries between each "blackout" to get the screen back.

I do this and sometimes it works, sometimes it causes the game to crash. It freezes up and then gives me the whole "KOTOR is not responding" dealio. I'm trying to see if certain graphics setting in the game can fix this, but so far I'm having trouble just getting to the Options Menu

Hey, I have the same problem and I think it's because of the Windows 10 update I made a couple of days ago. I tried searching on Google for some fix, but I didn't manage to make it through. Hope there will be a solution for this...

Hello everyone,

I've found a way to fix the black screen bug on windows 10.

1. Install the app GeForce Experience, by Nvidia, on your computer.

2. Follow the steps of the instalation of GeForce Experience and at the end restart your computer.

3. Go to the file location of the game, SWKOTOR.

4. Right click on the icon swkotor.exe -> Run with graphic processor -> Run with high-performance NVIDIA processor -> Open NVIDIA Control Panel -> Manage 3D settings -> 1. Select a program to customize -> Select SWKOTOR Icon from the list -> 2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program -> High-performance NVIDIA processor -> then press ADD and SAVE.

5. After this, right click again on the icon swkotor.exe -> Run with high-performance NVIDIA processor.

6. Always open the game as you did on point 5.

Sometimes, when the movies start, the game takes you to the desktop, but it happens rarely, and you will fix it fast with an ALT+TAB.
