Don't know if you figured it out yet, but here's what I did.
When you are installing the reshader, not Fens, the actual reshader; have the Kotor.ini open next to it.

Then, only select the shader options that crosire has set values for, eg.
KeyFilmGrain=0,0,0,0 < See no values, don't install this option
KeyReflectiveBumpmapping=33,0,0,0 < Notice the "33" value, install that feature

Then when the game boots up, the reshader should load, open the menu and select the options you installed.
After you make your first save, exit and reinstall the shader with all options, as you have a saved preset, they won't activate and the screen shouldn't go black.
You should now be free to mess around with the reshade options till you get the look you want.

P.S. I still haven't gotten it to look like his, but it still looks really nice. I hope this helps you, just reply if you have any further problems.

So I have tried to follow your steps but the shaders still when I load up the game just opens another one of the game and that makes my screen go black and then it eventually closes one of them and lets me play normally but the shaders aren't there. so if you can please try to help me or explain some more on how to fix. thanks!

Okay, it's been quite a while since I did this so forgive me if any of this is vague or otherwise confusing. What I would recommend from here (seeing as my stupid ass can't remember much) is:
1. Perform a clean install.
2. Use crosire's tool to install the reshade device
3. Open up KotOR, if either, a) everything works fine, move to step 4, or, b) something is wrong with the reshader and you'll need to look up steps to fix that as I'm ignorant to how that all works
4. Make a fresh save in KotOR and quit the game
5. Download and install Fens Reshade manually, however open up the Kotor.ini (make a copy of this file) and set all values to 0 (I'm sorry in advance because this'll take ages)
6. Open up KotOR, if either, a) the reshade menu can still be accessed, move to step 7, or, b) something is wrong on Fens side of things and you should post on the nexus page for help
7. Quit KotOR and go back into the Kotor.ini and copy out the values from the copy from step 5 one by one, opening KotOR to check each time (again sorry, but this'll be a colossal pain in the ass)

This way, you'll be able to see which of the options is causing your screen to go black, thereby figuring out which options not to turn on.
I hope this helps and I again apologise if any of this is confusing, just reply if you need any clarification with my attempted list :steamhappy:

Hey just wondering, when you say change everything to 0 do you mean literally every value in the .ini (Under Sound Options, Game Options, etc),or just the ones pertaining to the graphics?

Been trying to fix this black screen for 2 days now.

Been trying to fix this black screen for 2 days now.

There should only be options pertaining to the reshader. Are you configuring the Kotor.ini included in the Fens download? Or the swkotor.ini that sits in the actual game files? The former is the .ini file you're looking for; and should be located in the downloaded file unless the mod author has changed something since I downloaded my copy. Hope this clarifies the question unless I've misunderstood.

And yeah I get how frustrating it can be, it took me ages to figure out a fix by myself. Was only able to do it because I'd dealt with this reshade tool before on another game.

Do you mean kotor test.ini? That is the only ini it comes with. Do you remember which value you changed to get it working for you? It's going to take an entire day to do it one by one. lol

The weird part is I had it working perfectly last year without making any changes to the ini that comes with fens.

Sorry yes, that is the one I meant. I do agree that my method is overboard. So I looked back through and the options that I currently have valued are:
-AdaptiveSharpen
-AmbientLight
-BloomandLensFlares
-DPX
-Colourfulness
-FilmicPass
-Levels
-Emphasize
-Clarity
-Tonemap
-GaussianBlur
-LightDoF_Auto
-LightDoF_Far
-LightDoF_Near

I do remember finding out which options black out your screen when I did this originally, but I can't remember which ones they were. If you have any more troubles, I'll try to find them, but it would be better to have any values that aren't these set to 0, otherwise you get some weird, undesired effects. :praisesun:

Gents, I believe I have figured it out. I'd love to have someone test it out and confirm!

Basically, there are two culprits. They are

-Curves
-DepthHaze

You can enable everything else as you please, just these two causes the black screen. I have only tried the fixes on my own PC. But this worked for me.

However, the the above is for when using the latest reshade version. If you go to the repository and download the rehade ver 3.4.1. You won't get a black a screen and can use everything. That is because that version was the latest one when the preset was released.
