Modding advice for KOTOR?
I'd like to get into both of them starting with this 1st one, but I'd like to mod the game if necessary for some smooth sailing or ironing out anything funky.

I suppose I'm asking because I've had experience modding the Elder scrolls games and know that the experience can vastly change for the better.

I know about restoration mod patches for this but not sure if its more needed for the second game than the first, also besides graphical mod stuff (not that important but can consider) Im not sure what would generally should be used.

Any input would be great, thanks in advance as well.

I wouldn't recommend starting with K1 Restoration project. It adds a lot of content back in, but most of that content was cut for a reason, not due to time constraints like the restored content in the second game.

I'd reccomend checking out the KotOR Community Patch instead. Fixes a lot of bugs and sensibly alters/restores certain things that don't mess with the pacing.

I can make more recommendations but they'll sound like gobbledigook to someone who's never modded/played the game before. The mods I tend to use are ones that preserve the original feel of the game, so many would be almost unnoticable, unless you know what to look for.

Thanks for informing me about the patches.

I dont mind your recommendations, I could use them for future reference perhaps, I'm thinking I should probably just start it and then see what may work but I dont know if I can have a lot of time for retrials and replays so thats the one thing Im considering.

Does the game have widescreen support like the second game? I know that one had a major update sometime back for that. Or is that something I need to fix with community patches too?

This one didn't get an update here on Steam like the 2nd did, it's the same as the disc version from 15 years ago.
Most people use a program called Flawless Widescreen to get widescreen support.

The first time I finished both games it was without mods and without running into bugs, after that I looked at modding the game (and making mods myself).
For the 2nd game I do recommend the Restored Content Mod, even for the first playthrough.

Im sure you know this but nexusmods.com has a bunch of tiny ones (and some big) that are great. I usually use them.
