After leaving Dantooine the game locks you out various content?
While lurking some guides for my Guardian, I came across a very upsetting (for me) thread. It seems that after leaving Dantooine you can't actually choose the next planet without getting a degree in KOTOR first.

You can't simply start your adventure where you feel like, because most content is locked behind your choice. If you go to planet A before planet B you won't be able to have an important conversation on planet C, so you must do just side quests on D, return on A, stop after a quarter of your total quests, go back to C, switch member and start again on A, this while locking out, forever, E and F.(Of course this is just a verosimile example made up to explain what kind of crazy manoeuvres you have to do)

Same goes for your equip, you need to do few stunts in order to avoid being locked out.

This according to what I've found on a forum dedicated to this game.

So I'm asking you guys, is this legit? Do you really need to do this kind of stuff if you want to experience all the content?

There is an optimum sequence but you can complete the game doing the four planets in any order. You will miss stuff but that leaves replay value.

Play the game and enjoy discovering things or get a walkthrough and follow it robotically - your choice.

That's my issue, I don't see imminent replay value in rpgs. You know everything is going to happen, you know every single dialogue, every single room. Playing again hours upon hours just for those, maybe, spreaded 5-10 minutes in total of new lines plus one of the two endings, itìs not worth it. According to the forum you lose some additional conversations that add to the story, but that aren't vital overall. This is not enough (imo) to justify a new playthtough, but plenty for you to say 'Damn, I wanna know'.

One could say ''Play Light Side or Dark Side, opposite of your first playthrough', however it isn't really a good advice. The difference is that you're more polite* and instead of killing bounty victim #1, you help him fake his death by fetching a stupid device and stuff like this (Exaggerating to make a point). Hoorray?

At this point, I'll just play whatever, but it's annoying D:

*Not taking in consideration KOTOR or KOTOR II since these are very old games, but I'll take the occasion to point out how incredibly annoying is, to this day, playing the bad guy in the vast majority of rpgs. Writers seems to have a hard time getting that rude =/= evil and that killing a whole family out of spite shouldn't be the only option of evil doing available >_<''' sooo restricting >.<

If you want to experience as much as possible in a single play through, then yes, one would have to jump around a lot before completing the planet's main quest.

RPG's are built around the premise that players will have more than one play through of it. Because there's usually at least 2 endings in them. At least 2 romantic options (there are 2 in KOTOR, it just involves playing 1 male play through and 1 female play through). At least one major mid-game decision that affects the game. Therefore, the game developers do not feel pressure to make sure that it's possible to experience the entire game in one play through.

As for Light vs Dark, yea this game is kind of extreme on the choices for both. It is one of the few cons I have with the game and I only do female Light side playthroughs and go to the planets in the same order. KOTOR II does a better job of not being so blatantly Light vs Dark.

Still can't do everything possible in one play through.

Can't do both Light and Dark side endings. Can't do all of the romance options in one play through.

Some missions have multiple ways to finish them, can't do both in one play through.

RPG's aren't meant to be played through only once. They're meant to be played through multiple times. At least the good ones. Sounds like RPG's may not be the genre for you.
