Does Star Wars KOTOR 1 or 2 work on Windows 10?
I've had Star Wars KOTOR 1 and 2 on my Steam wishlist for quite a while, and I wasn't sure if I should buy them or not since I built my Win10 desktop PC. The reason I bring this up is to see if there are issues with KOTOR 1/2 on Win10 before buying it, because I don't want to feel cheated out of my money if it didn't work.
This Win10 compatibility issue concerned me because when I tried to boot up Fallout 3 on my Win10, it said it needed GFWL to work:steamfacepalm: , then I saught to find alternatives to this issue. Turns out you have to do this in order for it to run. Blah blah, it wouldn't work, and I decided to play it on my Win7 LapTop and it actually worked (without GFWL), but ran at 30FPS or lower, except on menus. Let's just say that LapTop wasn't built with PC gaming in mind.
If there are issues with required data files, GFWL, compatibilty, or ETC. related to the Win10 OS itself, please let me know. I'm going to hate to play KOTOR if it's on my LapTop.
P.S. The Windows 10 compatibility with games never listed KOTOR 1 or 2 on the website (http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider/forum/insider_wintp-insider_install/windows-10-games-compatibility-list/a31335a8-730f-4ac9-8c19-7c8c3a664ced), so I don't know.

I've played it just fine. Never had a problem with either of them.

Works on Win 10 for me. The OS isn't usually the problem, the more frequent issues are graphics drivers and multi core processors.

Modern graphics drivers/cards increasingly don't handle the old graphics routines used in this game. Often it is enough to turn some of the graphics options off, but not always.

Multi core processors seem to handle the game operations out of sequence across cores causing various lock ups. Setting affinity to a single core can fix this, but again may not.

In summary, you may be lucky and have to do little or nothing to get either Kotor game to run, or you may have to edit files and apply other fixes. The games may not run at all but it is impossible to know unless you try them.

Your laptop is more likely to run the games than your desktop.

Works on Win 10 for me also. As said immediately above. problems generally come from the hardware, not the OS. Just make sure that when you first run KOTOR, you go into Options --> Graphics --> Advanced Options and turn off Frame Buffer Effects. If you have them on, you won't be able to get past character creation without crashing to desktop.

Ok, I just wanted to make sure it worked without having a popup saying "ERROR: SWKOTOR.exe is not compatible with Win10".

yea that typically should not happen. Windows does have a compadability protocool.

You can go to the .exe file and change the properties to turn back to 8 7 or even vista. If you want me to help you find the directory for the other game your having trouble with, just let me know and I can show you the file route here.

From what I heard, it's a mixed bag; sometimes it works perfectly fine for others, sometimes it's screwed up for another group. For me, it works fine on Windows 7.

Since there's a sale going on as I'm writing, it's probably the best time to get these games. It's like $2.49 for KOTOR 1 or 2 each.

Both work fine with Windows 10. Just make sure for Kotor 1 to turn off Frame Buffer effects, soft shadows and v synch in the graphics options menu.

Have you looked at the resolution settings in the advaced settings section, or have you looked there already?

I have no problem with both kotor 1 and kotor 2 on windows 10 (never had to disable soft shadows or any others options). Kotor 2 is compatible with modern hardware and modern OS since the last patch released one year ago. Kotor 1 work with windows 10 but not for everyone. It may work like it did for me or some others players but it's not sure. The best way is to get the game and try on your computer and if you have some problems then you can ask for a refund.

They both work perfectly. I've never had any issue with either game. I know the first game has had problems in the past with Windows 7, but I never had issues there either.
