It should be automatic unless you have managed to turn that off (unlikely).
Which area is giving issues? Try play around with soft shadows? I am not sure why it's still crashing for you. I played the whole game with no crashes although I do admit I only play for 45 minutes or so each time. I haven't finished it since installing fall creators update so not sure maybe something changed in windows 10. Will play more today to see.
Try paste the whole thing in there and see what happens. It worked for me and I finished the game a few times with no crashes before. Maybe I got lucky.
Well to be fair every game can crash after 4 hours. The game crashed yesterday after one of the autosafes.
Of the two I had a crash in KOTOR 2 but that seemed to be patched.
Try update the Nvidia driver and see if that also helps.
