Let's start with what you have to do to not trigger the turrets. Starting in the area outside Anchorhead past the sandcrawler your party should consist of your character, HK47 and one other companion. Your character and the companion must both be wearing Sand People robes which you get by killing the Sand People guarding the exit to the Sand People territory. Leave that area and enter the Sand People territory. Once there, head for the enclave entrance. I've never had any issues stopping to pick up mines but I avoid the patrolling Sand People. I have always been able to open the entrance to the enclave and go in without dying. The guard inside will challenge you and HK47 should start a dialogue.
If you did anything, however small, differently, go back to a save from before you entered the Sand People territory and try again.
If you don't have a save that far back, you may be screwed.
Glad it worked for you.
