Reading this in 2023. Normally out of context is something where there are other groups of text/conversation in between..
It was indeed. Some people weren't around for the PC gaming era where gamepad support was heavily frowned upon and games that had it were largely lambasted as being "dumbed down console ports!". It's why all of Bioware's classic games on PC (KOTOR, Mass Effect 1/2, Dragon Age 1/2, etc) and others like Diablo 3 ONLY included mouse/keyboard support. Go to almost any PC gaming forum at the time and search for "gamepad" or "controller" and scroll through the countless threads where one person asked if gamepad support could be patched into any game, and the pages upon pages of "pc master race" warriors telling calling them "console kiddies" and other nonsense.
Now, the pendulum's swung the other way and more people expect and demand controller support in every game, regardless of said game's age. We have it good now with lots of choice of how to play, but most older games are going to require mods, xpadder, etc to work well, if at all, with gamepads. This is why Steam puts the partial or full controller support tag on the store pages. If it's not there, don't expect it to work out of the box.
There is no controller support tag for KOTOR on steam store, but KOTOR II does have it since that was patched in some time in recent years.
right? but alas laziness prevails and now i would like some controller support so i can sit on other side of room and play but i settled for blue tooth kb/mouse. that and steam controller overlay is honestly heinous garbage most of the time. most of the newer games already come with controller support but steam hijacks it anyway.... i know theres a setting for it but it keeps turning itself back on
Why SHOULDN'T it need to say that. Simply expecting it is very entitled and making assumptions is very low IQ. I'd also like it to have gamepad support, but it's not something you're entitled to; if you don't like it, don't buy it or get a refund, but don't demand it or whine about it like a child.
