KOTOR 1 is aging fast, will they update it just as they did with KOTOR 2?
This isn't really a question but more of an observation....

I mean it's been awhile since KOTOR 2 has been updated but the question is... will KOTOR 1 will be updated like KOTOR 2?

I remember playing KOTOR 2 and how they fixed the crashing, added mod support and even supports resolutions to 8k I believe. Why isn't KOTOR 1 updated at this point, I know I understand KOTOR 2 isn't by bioware but because of this... the game is aging... fast.

It's just things like these will help the game stay up to date and even playable on newer systems. Last time I've played through KOTOR 1, the game was just unplayable at times and the bugs and the jumpy FPS really doesn't help me enjoy the game. I remember just buying the game for the first time on steam and I spent so much time just having the game work and run as optimal as I can.

It's really great that KOTOR 2 was updated, it gives me a glimmer of hope that companies do care about their product no matter how old. And it kept the game to date which I would rather prefer playing than KOTOR 1 (despite how much better KOTOR 1 is.) And even so other games have "re-enchanced" games such as Beamdog with Bioware's Baldur's Gate series.

Like legit KOTOR 1 is a nostalgia trip at this point, anyone who buys it will be either nostalgia driven gamers who'll play it for a couple of hours to see how outdated and broken it is or players who'll only play through this once and leave it alone because they want nothing to do with the crahses.

I am seriously wondering this as well. We know those with AMD cards overall have a hard time playing this due to crashing, missing graphical elements like in stealth, and cutscenes taking too long to load, etc. KOTOR 2's update long overdue update DRASTICALLY changed the game for the best. Even without the update, it ran better than kotor 1. Kotor 1 DESPERATELY needs an update yo. BTW who were the ones who updated it?

It was patched by Aspyr (The same ones who published Kotor 1 but developed by bioware and 2 by obsidian, if it has any relation to the patch.)

And the worst part about this. Like in 10 years when new Operating systems are released, this game will not be functional to the point where very few will play it. I mean look at windows 10. Look at the crap that they had to go through. I use windows 7 so it was not as bad as the window 10 users to set the game up.

Look at KOTOR 1 players online and look at KOTOR 2.... KOTOR 2 has a bigger fanbase because of the steam workshop and yet it runs much much much better than KOTOR 1. Just reading about the patch in wiki, ever since steamworkshop was added, users made mods to fix like 500 bugs. Like if they just patch a workshop or just a crash-free version with the major problems fixed. Like they can say forget it to the small bugs and just fix the big problems. I bet if you they just added the mod support. Users could fix the mod and Aspyr doesn't really have to do ♥♥♥♥.

If KOTOR 1 isn't patched at all anytime soon, the game will be dead and pretty much forgotten whereas KOTOR 2 will triumph and be more successful in the long run.

KotOR has had mod support since 2003. Download a .zip, extract to override. EZPZ.

They can't fix K1's problems with mods, it needs widescreen support and the movies need to be altered so that they don't require an external player to play the files. It works fine on Windows XP, but for whatever reason, 7 and above apparently have trouble whenever the videos play and it minimizes the game so the player can load the video files. As for small bugs, KotOR only had one. It obliterated Bastila's Romance and it's already been fixed by modders years ago.

I thought they did own it but whatever. I know lucasarts published this game.

I mean yes kotor 1 and 2 had mod support since the game came out. (Last playthrough I had brotherhood of shadow installed)

But according to reports of kotor2's recent patch. Apprently the community fixed a ton of bugs that kotor 2 had. So I'm just wondering could the community do the same with kotor 1 if they did come out with a patch.

And amd gpus suffer from playing this game... The game ran like ♥♥♥♥ when I had the r9 280x.

I mean really thinking about it... There isnt much things that were wrong with the game. But it's just really stressful to play the game on later os's so who knows how newer operating systems will handle the game.

You're talking about the makers of the TSLRCM. They would be fixing errors in the code of their mod which is integrated into the Steam version of K2. All that has to do with npcs, quests and whatever else.

The issues that K1 has are all hardware related, as I said, when you run it on its original intended operating system, there aren't any stability issues. The video crashes don't happen, about the only thing you need to do is turn off Frame Buffer Effects if your video card isn't from the period.

Even though I have a PC with Win XP already, I'm mulling over the idea of rebuilding my old PC I had back then. Pentium 4 Processor, Ati Radeon Pro Atlantis 128mb gpu. 4gb ram with a 1280x1024 monitor, just so I don't have to turn off frame buffer effects.

Reguardless, this game needs an update similar to kotor 2. It would be 100% awesome and everyone knows it. I only play kotor 1 on my xbox for absolute nostalgia.

It's mind blowing that halo and fable got remasters but Kotor has not and when it is finally remastered they better do it right. I would be just as happy if not happier with a remaster vs a kotor 3.

There are a handful of games that really engaged my imigination as a kid, and KOTOR was one of those. Everytime I play it, its such a joy and to be able to play it remastered like KOTOR 2 would be schweet.

I played this a few months ago now for the first time so I only know this version, and I think that if it's being sold on Steam in the current market as a relevant product, it should probably function properly or get a big price cut to represent the state of affairs, given that you'll be spending a lot of your own time fiddling with it to get it working properly and time is money as they say. I imagine it's just too much work for not enough payoff for them. Most of the people that want this game already have it, and anyone looking to get it is still pretty much stuck with the digital version or nothing at this point. So yes, it definitely SHOULD be updated to at least function properly on modern systems, but it most likely WON'T because it wouldn't be profitable to do so. To be fair, The reasons I don't really have much desire to go back to this game anytime soon are not related to the technical issues but rather the design itself.

I played through this about a year ago and it was an extremely smooth experience on an AMD gpu too, may have been the resolution i played on which was 1280x1024 @75 hertz if i remember correctly

Bottom line, the game needs an update similar to the one kotor 2 got. Its playable now it just requires some finesse to get it working properly, which is to be expected when a game receives on updates from anyone.

My machine is Intel, if that makes a significant difference. I haven't a clue with the technical stuff.

Maybe a remaster for the release of the eighth episode.
