In that case I'm seriously thinking to buy the game. Finally, is the Monkey Island games collection worth it? Up until now I played (and enjoyed) games like Broken Sword or Day of the Tentacle
you wont get a better game for a cheaper price... I would buy this master piece without doubt, specially if you already played and enjoyed point and click games.
the UI of the special edition it's sort off the one in Broken Sword.
As they already said there is a hotkey to switch between HD and classic version. imo they did an excellent job in the special edition, and you would probably only change to classic version just for nostalgic
One thing I forgot to ask: does switching from HD to classic also switch the music? Can I hear the classic music instead of the new one from the HD?
The "modern" version with the dialog takes all that away and gives you predetermined characters by spoon feeding you. If that was the only version, then I would pass on the game -- the old version is the real masterpiece.
When I first encountered the game it was in FOUR color CGA. It's not as immersive as the "colors" aren't lively enough. The EGA version had 16 colors and dithering made the game playable. 256 color VGA brought out 256 colors and that's the "old version" we have here.
Lawn, off!
Yes, that is why whenever I want to play a game for the first time, I want to play the original, no matter how old it is. I have 2 mentalities that I always respect whenever I want to get into a game series: playing all the games in the release order and playing them in their original form.
I played several point and clicks at their time, like Sam and Max, Broken Sword, Maniac Mansion 2 Day of the Tentacle and so on, but for some reason I haven't touched Monkey Island yet. This would be my first point n click without any voice acting, but since I grew up with retro games, this will actually be a better experience for me, especially since one of the things I love the most for a game is the music, and so not only I will be able to hear the music better, but as you said, it will be better imagining myself how every voice sounds like.
This will help a lot with imersion. I may not be a kid anymore, but I hope I certainly will enjoy these games, as I am seriously thinking to buy them now, as people here said originals are included too, as I really want to play the originals first, and maybe the remasters in some other time, in case I someday want to replay these games.
EDIT: I separated my text in paragraphs, as I figured it I didn't do it after I saved it xD
