Sword-master Dialogue Problems

i'm at the part when Guybrush has to defeat the sword-master. I've been following a walk-through, but not all the responses are included in the choices that appear in the game. Is there anything I can do to give Guybrush more to say? I've tried to beat the sword-master at least 5-6 times now with no luck. Why have her make the statements when the proper responses are not included in the dialogue?

I figured it out. I needed to fight the other pirates on the paths to learn all the appropriate responses before facing the sword-master.

Yeah, you need to fight other pirates. They will show up on the map. Once you have enough comebacks Guybrush will say smth along the lines of being ready to fight the swordmaster. But keep in mind that the sentences which she uses against you differ a bit from the original ones. You'll need to guess which one is the right comeback but it's fairly easy to figure out.
