Known Issues PC/OSX/Linux
All
  • If you are experiencing a crash on startup and are using the Steam beta, try reverting to the stable version as something in the beta steam overlay crashes the game.
  • If you are running the game with a low end GPU and it crash when starting the game, setting the Texture Quality (in the video settings) to low will probably fix the issue.
  • If your missing the healthbar color, it is generally fixed by updating your gpu driver.
OSX/Mac
  • The game sometime crashes on startup, restarting the game fixes the issue.
Linux
  • Due to a bug in the Unity engine, Pulseaudio is required to run the game.
  • If the health bar has a long hashmark tail that go beyond the healthbar, try playing the game at your screen native resolution or in windowed mode.

please redirect, if this is not the appropiate thread.

I would like to purchase the game to play on my Linux living room PC using my controller and would like to ask if the setup is supported:
- Ubuntu GNOME 14.04.02
- Geforce GT640 with official drivers
- Logitech F710 controller

I figure that the most critical part will be the controller as I have experieinced a lot trouble in the recent past.
I have played multiple games with this controller so far in my setup, but for some reason the last games I purchased would not allow me to use this particular controller, though always stateing "full controller support" in the descriptions - what was really meant was often only "full XBox 360 /PS3 support" - which totally sucks, as I also bought an PS4 controller in addition and did not go for the almost outdated hardware from last gen consoles.
Thanks for any help on my question!

Both the F710 and the PS4 should work on Linux. We are using the Rewired plugin to handle controllers and here is there supported controllers chart:

cool, thanks for the quick response and I'll give it a try!
Will update with results.

I just bought the game and the sound is cracking/stuttering. I'm using Linux. Is this related to the bug mentioned above?

From what I've learned pulseaudio works in mysterious ways. Can you try lowering the in-game volume sliders and increasing your system volume and see if it helps?
hi there, the F710 works like a charm - thanks a lot for the help/answer again.
Gameplay is smooth and easy to handle :)
For the audio situation:
I - so far - did not realize any issues with audio.
Running default sound configs for the pc and for steam itself.
Though i have to check if it occurs when i turn up master volume to 100%, playing at lowered master volume so far.

I do not suggest turning up the master volume, as it will most likely produce garbled noise. WHen I made the volume sliders, I allowed you to boost the sound to Unity maximum, but this is way too high. I'll be limiting the maximum slider value in the next patch.

sadly it didn't work for me. Had the sound set to the minimum setting, but still heard the noises. It is worst, when you can hear the female voice speaking. e.g. in the intro sequence

What OS are you using? I can try looking if there is any known issue with it and the version of Unity we are using.
Dverg Jan 13, 2016 @ 10:19am
Arch Linux. Kernel is 4.3.3 and pulseaudio is version 7.1.

I am not overly familiar with Arch (or even Linux as matter of fact), so I am sorry if what I suggest sounds dumb. I suspect the crackling sound is due to some Pulseaudio setting. Looking around I found this doc on it:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Glitches.2C_skips_or_crackling

A year or two ago I was playing Path of Exile on Linux and I had crackling sound. It was fixed when I increased the default fragment number of PulseAudio.

Ok, tried all the things mentioned in this article related to glitchy sound, but sadly nothing worked for me :(.
Thanks for trying to help btw. It is quite rare to get some responds from the devs here in the steam discussions. At least for some other games.

Are the unity devs aware of that bug, that forces you to use pulseaudio? Maybe I have to wait on a fix on that side.

Yes they are aware, it has been fixed in the last major update. The problem caused a crash, not glitchy sound so I am not sure it will help your issue.

Until recently the latest Unity update was too unstable for us to use. It seems fine now but more testing is required before we update our game to it. It will also trigger a pretty big patch for no playable content (new Unity version recompress some assets) so I was holding it off until our next content update.

I'll probably update the engine next week and if our internal tests go well I could update only the Linux build for now.

No pressure. It seems I'm the only one so far. So it could be related to something on my side. In the end Arch is not officially supported by valve. I had to fiddle around with some other games, too, to get them working right, though never had sound issues. Using bleeding edge software has its pros and cons ;).

Ok for now I will wait for the engine update. Maybe that will work.
awa i still can't run this game
