Loom

Terrible Port
The CD-ROM version of Loom offered here on Steam is absolute garbage. It's missing alternate puzzle solutions, dialogue, and art, and it's even been censored. If you want to play Loom, grab a copy of the Amiga version and play it with ScummVM.

No I didn't know, that's amazing information, thanks!

Of course! And music. And dialogues :)
But my favourite version is still EGA. In FM-Towns graphics occupies lesser part of screen due to different resolution.

Again, get the Amiga version. Just Google for it and use ScummVM to play. It will take less than 1 minute to do this for anyone who has ever Googled anything before.

Many of you may already know this, but I thought I'd post this here so that people looking for it can find it (even though this is also mentioned in the English Wikipedia article about Loom):

It's not an official way. In fact I doubt very much about the legality of downloading the FM-TOWNS version even if you have a CD-ROM Steam one.

I don't really care at this point. I bought this game originally when it came out in 1991, I bought it again several times in different systems, etc. I want a version that its exactly like the original, I deserve it. End of story.

I woudln't have bought the game if I had known it was so short and chopped up for Steam. I don't mind paying for games, but I sure as hell want to get my money's worth.

Wow, I realize this is several years late- but thanks Triiad for the info on how to get the "complete" version of Loom. Yet to try it so hopefully it still works, but the idea that I'd be missing out on important content for a game is certainly enough for me to put in a few minutes to get the full version.

Heads up, you want Amiga and not FM Towns. Find an Amiga version and use ScummVM as usual.

Okay I bought Loom on steam and I did not know of any cuts. Too bad, because it is one of my favourite adventure games. So now that I have given my money to the developers I feel absolutely free of guilt getting an alternate version. No need to enter my steam data. Amen.

Could somebody please tell me the difference between the Amiga and the FM-Towns version?
maccentris Jan 8, 2017 @ 7:06pm
You wont be able to download fm-towns without Steam purchase confirmation... I don't think there is any difference from Amiga, but I can tell you one thing when this game was "originally" released for the Mac (a year or so later) the graphics were amazing (both mono and color) compared to both the Amiga and DOS version, and I do miss that.
SludgeSlave Jan 9, 2017 @ 1:15am
The CD versions of the game are missing puzzle solutions that are present in other versions. Of the non-CD versions, the Amiga is the best one. I've played every single version of LOOM. Take my word for it.

Yes but FM-Towns looks better and I would like to know why Amiga is the better version and I still have no answer. One thing I know is that there is no difficulty option in the FM-towns version. Is there anything else?

By the way, the first time I played Loom was on an old black/white screen, so any version will be better than that ;)

Besides, the music in FM-T is also much better and Loom is a music heavy game!

(I plan to play loom with ScummVM)

From Wikipedia:

Loom was originally published for DOS on floppy disk with 16-color EGA graphics in May 1990. This version was soon after released on the Amiga, the Atari ST, and Macintosh.

FM Towns

Loom was redeveloped for the Japanese FM Towns computer and released on CD-ROM in 1991 with enhanced 256-color VGA graphics and a new digital soundtrack. The dialogue and story elements remained largely unchanged from the original version, though at least one scene was partially censored of blood, and some elements of the visual design were lost. A similar version was released for the TurboGrafx-CD in 1992, but featured a mix of visuals from the 16- and 256-color versions, adapted to that system's color palette.

Talkie

The final version of Loom was released for DOS on CD in 1992. It featured an entirely re-recorded digital soundtrack, a separate CD for the audio drama, and fully voiced dialogue, with many of the actors reprising their roles from the audio drama. However, due to the technical constraints on how much uncompressed audio could fit on a CD, much of the original dialogue had to be revised or abridged. Orson Scott Card assisted with the dialogue revision.

The graphics were a continuation of those used in the FM Towns version but with some minor enhancements and additional censorship. Some features were also cut from the FM Towns version, such as multiple solutions to puzzles,[citation needed] many conversation close-ups, and parts of cutscenes. Brian Moriarty has stated that he believes the FM Towns version to be the best 256-color version of Loom.

"Brian Moriarty has stated that he believes the FM Towns version to be the best 256-color version of Loom."

I agree with that.

the big question is: do the minor changes/cuts in the FM-T version justify playing the Amiga version.
