The wand tree is a bit rubbish.
Like all of it. There ain't quite enough variety (between wands) in some perks, and some don't even have any effect for some wands.

Perk 1- This one is exactly the same for every single damage wand, and is ridiculously weak. One damage per hit is practically worthless. I suggest that:

  • The elemental wands do their weapon enchant effect
  • Poison well, poisons
  • Blink teleports (like the blink dagger) (chance based)
  • Healing life steals
  • Digging knocksback (?)
  • And chaos does a random effect from this list

This would add some variety, and make them all interesting and actually useable. At all.

Perk 2- I'm alright with this one.

Perk 3- Again, the charges gain is fine, but the charge attack is a bit rubbish. It seems to be about 150% damage, which seems totally ineffectual. When spamming is so much more powerful an option, there doesn't seem to be a point. Perhaps 200%? And blink & digging (actually, I don't know about this one... Does it dig further?) don't really do much...

Perhaps blink could create portals on either end? Digging could maybe be twice as thick?

Perk 4- This sorta stinks. Poison, blink, chaos, healing, & digging don't do nuthin. I like the idea. But maybe add some effects? Chaos does all weakly, blink improves blink (same buff as the wand charge, would add some use to the wand post finding the spell), healing = spirits, digging = earthquake.

But then what about poison? I can't think of nuthin.

So maybe I'm not thinking out of the box enough. Maybe it could add the earlier listed effects to spells? Then you got sweet poison Eleclance. The other idea stands (barring poison), but this is also something to think about.

Now, all this is well and good, but unlike literally every other skill tree in the game, wands aren't really useable until you find a luck generated item.

So how's about we change that.

My first thought was to add a wand drop to one of the perks, but then I thought of my very first reaction to the Rune Orb.

I tried to combine it with the Ancient Wand. Think about it, all these wands have these little magic gem settings, then I have a broken wand without a setting, then I find a magic gem. It's natural to combine the two.

Maybe make it an elemental wand that does one of each of the three element wand effects?

This would reduce the reliance on RNG, give the Mage something more in the Rune Orb, AND be a sweet as heck secret.

It is possible that Wand Affinity is going to get completely replaced by something else in the future.

That'd do too!

I'm glad to hear it.

Mage needs a solid defense affinity, preferably with invincibility frames.

Eh, I'm fine with a glass cannon.

See but I can't even get mage into the "cannon" part of glass cannon.

It's doable. Fireballs and other high tier spells with Spell 4 mostly. But I think that's part of what redoing the wand tree is for.

still wouldnt call him a cannon as all the other classes are still faster more efficent killers that are all around better at staying alive.
as is mage is just a rune-scribing, pot-dealer.
True... Still wouldn't mind him becoming one!

My problem is that I love the wide variety of spells, but it seems to me that only mage can actually make use of 90% of them. I tend to throw away most of my books into the fire when I'm not playing mage, and I can never seem to get anywhere actually playing mage.

Spells are only really useful at like 10 INT

Any class CAN get INT tho.

It's not really viable for Knight or Wildling tho.
