Remapping with a ps4 controller?
I'm trying to remap with the Ps4 controller but it's not really working.

try unplugging your keyboard first, and only having your controller plugged in. also is your driver set up for your controller? that would be an important thing to check.

i believe a dev has said a few times that sometimes when you go to bind buttons it can break because it sees a small always pressed input like a joystick (i think i read this XD). hope this helps man!

How do I check if my drivers are set up for the controller?

We have seen issues with controllers like this multiple times. Usually the problem is that some of these modern controllers have accelerometers inside them that register as axes. What I did to get my PS3 controller working was either:
  • making the controller driver emulate it as an xbox controller
  • setting the controller on my desk and assigning inputs without worrying about accelerometer outputs messing things up

Could you possibly link me to a quick guide so that I could emulate an xbox controller?

Another option is to use a program to make your controller inputs emulate a keyboard. I actually like this option a little more, as you can assign multiple buttons to the same thing if you want (for example, I have swap/cancel set to both R1 and L1 on my ps4 controller). I don't think there any options in the default controller settings that let you do that.

Remapping works for when i have the ps4 controller plugged in via usb (otherwise the gyro axis automatically triggers). Unfortunatly, axis 0 - is stuck held down by default (axis 0 is the horizontal axis on the left analog stick). luckily i wanted to map this to the first input in the list, but when my character spawns he moves left on his own. Just thought this story would help with bug fixing.

Thanks for this, it's really interesting actually that the ps4 controller reports differences when it's plugged in versus not plugged in. This explains a lot about how I haven't been able to reproduce this issue properly.

I would suggest xboxdrv if you use linux to mimic the xpad. It works with practically every controller I've thrown at it. There exist example configurations to get ps3 and ps4 controllers set up.

The method i have been using is ScpDriver and ScpServer for now. it works fantastic using usb plugged in controls. you start the server and the controllers show up in the server program. it shows up as an xbox 360 controller in vagante but everything maps great (except the touch pad)
