Attacking down/up shouldn't be a unlockable skill?
Is it just me or is every class unplayable after playing as knight? I just feel like attacking in directions should be an ability from the start - especially since you can't attack midair, which makes it super annoying to fight as anything else. I also felt that attacking down was the only succesful tactic to kill bosses.

These are just my first impressions. I just got the game today, so maybe I'm missing something, or I just need to git gud. Loving the game otherwise, even though it feels unfair at times.

as you said, you'll just need to git gud. It's a challenging game, but what you can attack mid air, it depends on the weapon type you use though. different weapons have different movesets.

I felt the same way after playing so long and looping the game once as the mage.
No other class was playable, but now I've got some strategies for the other classes that make them as easy as, if not easier than, the mage.

I actually play knight 80% of the time. I LOVE the limited angles. If it weren't for Sword 5 (Vorpal Sword), I would actually prefer skipping the attack angles perk. Once you get it down, you can kill any enemy in the game with the default sword angle. Generally you want to use it midair to keep your mobility, and then just space it correctly. I don't know what you mean by "since you can't attack midair"

If you would like to see some examples you can watch my Knight Rush video. I was being stupid reckless though, so I took a lot of damage, not everything I was doing was a good idea.

EDIT - I missed a major line in your first post:
Rogue is totally playable using the shadow line. Daggers are actually pretty crazy.

Druid is easier to use (single player) because of the super low cooldown on fists, compared to dagger.

Mage is broken good a lot of times. Easily getting close to the knight.

Truly the most broken thing the knight has, is Defense 1. Not sword 1. In my opinion I agree that the knight is absolutely overpowered compared to the other classes.

Not sure what ya mean about not being able to attack midair, although that might be because of the knights weapon type. The rogue's daggers work well while jumping. Each character has strategies and while I am no means a good player I imagine it just takes practice abnd many many many deaths to learn them.

If you would like to see another class played (not gunna say well.. just "played")... I am going to be broadcasting for the next hour or so. I gotta test out my new mic, so hopefully it doesn't take too long to setup.

Okay I got a bit confused there, you can attack midair...

What I meant was, that when playing as the knight, your attack is so slow that when your sword actually swings, you're already on the ground, making it pointless to jump+attack. And because you can't attack + jump to time it so the sword swings when youre in the air. Maybe I'm missing this feature so much because it was so heavily used in Spelunky to hit flying enemies.

Now that I think about it, it kinda makes sense the way it is, since you get to attack downwards, and you can probably upgrade your attack speed.

You can time it to attack midair. That video should show it at least a couple of times, even though I get Sword 1 (easiest rush skill)

Okay I have no idea what I was talking about yesterday, obviously you can attack midair. I think my problem was just that you cant attack and then jump, because when youre in a tight area, you cant attack midair at all. I don't really see it as a problem anymore though.. Just makes maneuvering enemies that much more important.

With short ceilings you can "short hop" to use a Smash Bros term. By pressing jump for less time you jump shorter, so you don't bounce off the ceiling. This can usually allow for a midair sword attack even with low ceiling.
