How do you use the knights sword slide?

Hi there! Just got the game but i understand that this is a very noobish question. But I don't seem to understand how to use the sword slide? After you put the first point in sword you do make a small movement to the side when you strike but it does not do increased dmg like the tool tips says?

Sword slide actually increases your versatility in combat. A good way to use it is to wind up the attack when an enemy is charging you (like a goblin) & then slide back by the time you attack, that way you can hit them while also avoiding their attack

It does, actually, do increased damage. Damage just isn't static, and can vary a point or two. This is especially noticeable early on but you stop feeling it as you progress.

Slide damage also only applies while sliding so if you want to get slide damage you must strike the enemy *while* sliding. It is not enough to have done a slide and then do a stab.

How do you "slide"? (Does that just mean head left or right?)
