Potion identification strategy?

I usually end up with 10+ potions and only a few ID scrolls (I never use ID on anything other than potions). Are there any tricks to finding out which potions are what without chugging them?

If you are playing solo, Identify scrolls are really the only option when it comes to not blind quaffing pots. Unless, of course, you play mage and have 1 point into the Alchemy tree which identifies all potions. (Mage is a difficult class to master though!) Hope this helps!

There's absolutely no way to tell, colors are totally random. This is a traditional rogue element.

Your options are

Drink it
ID it with a scroll
Get Alchemy 1 as Mage

Some traditional roguelikes (like nethack) have stupid things you can do to ID certain potions, like dipping weapons in them to find poison or acid. Also I believe blood and water always have the same appearance.

I don't believe Vagante _should_ have these things, I was just wondering if it already did.

It was this moment I can tell you how easy it is to recognize potions, scrolls and stuff .Only works in single player .In the transition between the levels is preserved and you use all you need to recognise , remember things and their stats are loaded . The result is you have not spent potions and recognized things . In the same way you can enchant on the article and endlessly use a double twice on mage

You can also wait for a potion to show up in a shop - shop potions are always ID'd and picking up a potion from a shop will ID the rest of that potion you'll find along your journey. It's a good part of why VIT down potions are one of the best investments you can make with the Merchant.
