Whenever your hotswitch comes back online, get beck to the Core ASAP. Just aiming at its red part should be fine from any distance.
You will have to return to the Core a total of 3 rimes before the level ends and you successfully beat it. These attempts also set checkpoints for you, so don't worry about dying.
The most important thing is: if you don't bother with being a badass, I (sincerely) recommend running away from a fight. Don't flip around in close quarters, don't try to kill everyone, just run the heck away as far from red dudes as possible, bunnyhopping and strafing if possible. Kill only when you need to and don't engage in meaningless confrontations, while keeping an eye on the Core. When you see your Hotswitch finally cool down, abandon everything and get into the Core. It's the only thing that matters.
