Are skills like go with the flow or prudent positioning any good?
I'm having a hard time noticing any benefit from them

Luxury skills, only take if you have nothing else to buy
I think Go With the Flow can help with getting blocked but I wouldn't call it critical

sounds 'bout right
They're pretty easy to bypass with enough of the stat they 'help.' Go With The Flow is redundant if you have 400+ Wit, aka "boxing what's boxing I'm a racer."
They're better than nothing if you're at the end with excess skill points and nothing more valuable to invest in, I guess.
nimble = best, altho it only has 0.05 lanemovement its enough, the acceleration is what gives it huge boost

go with flow = 0.25 lanemovement 2nd choice if u cant get nimble navigator

prudent = it helps outer lane starter to move closer to inner lane faster, but this only helps front runner who has groudnwork or leader's pride+early lead
and its usefulness is very minimal, since when u lead u naturally move to inner lane altho it might take slightly longer, as long as theres no corner right away, no one would overtake u from innerlane
early lanemovement skill is useless for other runstyle as other run style would get blocked if move to inner lane and slow down at the same time.

i think mid race lane movement skill such as thunderbolt step are more useful than early race lane movement skill. especially surger or chaser might get blocked. they would love to use lanemovement skill to get out of the blockage
Maneuvering and FoV skills don't do much until they're buffed during the first anniversary. Nearly the same thing for guts.

Not quite... remember that skills do inflate uma rating... dead weight skills will result in your uma being pitted against better optimized umas if those uma's rating comes from either raw stats or skills that actually perform... some people even burn hundreds of skill points at the end of the career just because they think some skills are not worth the rating they accrue

And btw i'm not saying positioning skills are dead weight, it's actually what i'm trying to gauge with this thread
Nope.
Should only be taken if nothing better.
Prudent positioning is worse though, because you don't need it early-race unless you're a front runner with VERY low power that you cannot get forward into your position on your own (which isn't a good thing by itself).

The best speed/acceleration skills are the ones that work late in a race and help you accelerate or maneuver to get ahead of your competitors.
So Nimble Navigator is better because it also gives a bonus to forward acceleration, rather than just hustle in a single line.

Early race is the only time front runners can get boxed in and if that happens it's usually gg...
It's amusing that people still think its *power* that saves Front/Pace umas from boxing.

500 Wit Pace Bakushin: "Boxing? I'm a racer, not Rocky Balboa."
Most positioning skills aren't priority.

Mysterious famous words as always :
When you are blocked, you are blocked.
Lategame manouver is good if you're pace chaser, as its usually on last corner, where it activates. In general, they're good on Pace chasers IF you can afford them on top your usual speed up / stamina regen skills. End closers or front runners don't need those skills, but pace and late surgers still can get stuck easily and lose due to it.
