Do i need Don't starve AND don't starve togheter?

Okay so im planning on buying don't starve for me and a friend to play together.
none of us have don't starve or don't starve together.
i was planning on to buying the mega pack (1x don't starve + 1x Don't starve together + giant expansion).
but if i only get the Don't starve and my friend gets the Don't starve together. will we be abel to play it together or do i need don't starve together aswell? and will he need the expansion too?

any case from what i remmber you need dont starve togeder (Two of you) but i may be worng
also i think there was something like owners of dont starve get the Dont Starve Togeder when its out of SEA
but again i am not sure

Don't Starve Together is a stand-alone multiplayer game. Think of it as the twin sibling of Don't Starve that's social while the other is a shut-in. You will both need Don't Starve Together in order to play with each other. Don't Starve will only let you play alone.

You also do not need the Reign of Giants DLC if you plan on playing Don't Starve Together - it's built into its skeleton already. (If you want just Don't Starve, you will have to buy it.) Have fun you two!
