Wurt Skill Tree (wondering what I should get and my opinions on each perk)
So, as someone who has played Wurt for a really long time and focuses more on her setup game (killing tentacles for spots, getting King ASAP, kelp, fish, etc.) I'm wondering what the best perks are for her skill tree.
My thoughts on the amphibian side are kind of mid. I don't like that you have to get the sanity part before the health-involved parts because she's almost always carrying a fish for a constant sanity buff. The health regen really seems to be the only good thing on the amphibian side but I haven't gotten to test that far down the tree yet. All things considered it feels like a waste of skill points to get 5 perks and only use 2 of them.
The Mermdom tree is also kind of a mixed bag. I looked at the Mosquito-involved part and immediately labeled it as bad because the mosquitoes aren't that big of a problem anyways with merm guards, and also the Mosquito Sacks would probably be better spent on Water Balloons if you plan to go down the Amphibian tree.
The "Merm King Quests" thing sounds interesting and I'm going to probably end up getting all of them. I already gave him a Marble Suit for the first quest (which I have no idea what that does btw) and I haven't gotten any quests beyond that.
The Merm King Hunger Boosts were kind of like the Mosquito-related things for me; as someone who gets reliable and year-round food sources really quickly, it's never felt like a struggle to feed the king. Not getting those.
Sensible Swamp Fighter and Swamp Pathfinder both seem to be mid-tier. Sensible Swamp Fighter especially sounds bad because it (more than likely) relies on the Wurt player also going down the Mosquito path to get a way to AoE heal Merms. Also, their retreating would also open up Wurt herself to whatever enemy's attacks. Meanwhile, Swamp Pathfinder also sounds lackluster; first of all, it is completely useless if you're playing alone (which doesn't happen to everybody, but I find myself alone half the time). Even if you're playing multiplayer, you're still going to have to have someone nearby for it to have any effect, and most characters don't need anything in the swamp anyways. IMO Swamp Pathfinder might be the worst perk in her entire tree.
The Community Feeder does sound moderately interesting. I haven't built one yet because I've put my points elsewhere, but somewhere for merms to automatically eat their own kelp does sound amazing. I have no clue what it means by "merm growth" (respawn rates?) or "calling merms into action" (maybe free recruitment, idk) but I'll probably end up getting it in the future.
The Tool Shed is probably right under the Community Feeder in my priorities list; improved efficiency on their harvesting does sound great, but it doesn't sound necessary. I haven't gotten any upgrades in this tree yet because I've always felt that the merms did just fine chopping and mining on their own. I'm wondering if the tools allow them to dig, since that would be absolutely huge for Wurt's harvesting game (bye bye, shovels), so I'll probably put a point in that at some point.
The Hardheaded perks caught my eye when I first glanced at the skill tree. Having more durable merm guards made me think that perhaps they could take on some formidable AoE bosses like Deerclops and Bearger. I've gotten both of those perks and have yet to build a 2nd-tier Armermry (I need more tentacle spots) but I can't wait to build one. IMO the best perk that I've gotten so far.
Now, when I went digging for info on Wurt's affinity perks, most of what I found was that the Shadow affinity was more focused on buffing Wurt herself, and that the Lunar Affinity was more focused on buffing the Merm Guards. I haven't gotten either affinity yet because I haven't killed either boss and I don't have 12 skills, but I'll probably end up going Lunar affinity because I've always seen Wurt as the "quality over quantity" counterpart to Webber.

TLDR I need help choosing my perks, please put a screenshot of optimal perks because I'm confused on most of these. Thanks!!!!

Thanks for the video, I was still kind of wondering what the shadow affinity actually does. I assume those shadow tentacles are doing about the same damage as the ones from a thulecite club, and from what I noticed I think they can only spawn on the swamp turf. I'll probably try both affinities out in my world and just use Celestial Portal to swap them if I prefer the other one. TBH my merms don't have too much trouble downing Dragonfly with no affinity but it will be hilarious to see Dragonfly die even faster than she already is!
But seriously thanks for the video :steamhappy:
Yeah they do the same amount of damage as the ones spawned by a thulecite club, but their spawn chance is actually higher, at 50% per hit instead of 20%. The effect from the mudslinger affects you as well, meaning your own attacks can also spawn shadow tentacles. The shadow affinity is significantly better as not only does the shadow mudslinger increase the damage of your merms much more than the lunar one does, but the shadow affinity also brings your merms back when they die as shadow merms, essentially outright doubling any given amount of mermguards you have. With the shadow mudslinger and 20 mermguards, I was able to kill toadstool in less than 2 MINUTES.

These are the skill trees i recommend you use for wurt. The first pic is the one i use when i'm first starting out in a world, and the second pic is the one i use once i've repaired the celestial portal and built all the structures i want.

iirc both of those mods are the same, called summin like "simple health bar"
there's 2 of them, one having more customizability than the other

Hydrous Healing 2 and Slippery Hide 2 combined would only good if you're staying on a Beefalo. If you aren't using a Beefalo, you should drop one and take Hardheaded 2 in case an Armermry gets destroyed.

I mean I am always using a beefalo lol so. It's also highly unlikely that my armermery would end up getting destroyed. I always have a Lightning rod and a flingo-matic placed next to my structures.

So do Hydrous Healing and Slippery Hide apply to the beefalo? Probably not but I'm just asking to be sure. Also, whenever I get to max wetness (either from rain or jumping off a boat) and I'm not near a heat source, I still dry off ridiculously fast (like 2-3 wetness per SECOND) and it makes the perks really weak. Any pointers on how to stay wet for long periods of time?

Bosses like Armored Bearger or Celestial Champion come to mind.

No. You lose Wetness when you get hit with Slippery Hide, and a Beefalo would (probably) prevent that unless its a ranged attack. Losing Wetness is really bad with Mental Fluidity and Hydrous Healing, but the HP "shield" can be nice in bad situations where you find yourself dismounted (or against ranged attacks). For avoiding losing Wetness, All-Weather Scales reduces the effects of heat sources on Wetness
( https://forums.kleientertainment.com/game-updates/dst/ added on Test 615739)
You can also deal with Wetness drain by placing a Thermal Stone down next to the fire and moving away until the Thermal Stone is heated. Later on you should probably use a Scorching Sunfish to keep yourself warm instead, and losing Wetness at base isn't that bad because you can reset it when you're done with whatever you were doing with fire.

Oh, also Wetness drains faster the higher it is.

Why would i be fighting them next to my base lmao?

You... wouldn't? You place it where they're fighting so they can restock their helmet once it breaks.

That's extremely unnecessary. Simply giving them helms before fighting is more than enough to get through multiple boss fights with barely any of them dying, let alone any of the shadow merms dying as well. I can just head back to base and restock their helms after the fight is over.

Yeah, I've been avoiding Slippery Hide up until now because I want to keep my wetness for longer. I'll probably just get a bunch of boats and place them around the coast so I can just jump off of them when I need wetness. Also I use scorching sunfish all the time, my main Wurt strat is to have a boat with a fishing bin by the first winter so I can catch at least 4 ice bream, then use those to catch scorching sunfish in the first summer so I never have to worry about temperature again. lmao

I'm at a loss for anywhere else I would put the skill points besides Itchcraft 2, but you wouldn't be able to afford it by dropping only Hydrous Healing 2, or Slippery Hide 2. You could remove both and get Itchcraft 2 + Sensible Swamp Fighter, but I feel like going out of your way to heal Merms is ineffective... unless its Lunar affinity I guess.

I'd just keep all the amphibious skills lol. I don't want the itchcraft stuff anyways.
