20XX 1.0 FAQ (tech issues? read me!)
I'm having a technical issue.
  • If your game doesn't start via Steam and reports a missing dll when you try to open it via windows, it means Steam has failed to auto-install a required file. If the following file says you have a newer version, you'll need to uninstall the old one first. Make sure you pick the right langauge from the dropdown. Get the file here![www.microsoft.com]

  • If you're experiencing an issue with the controls, try disconnecting all your other control devices (or things the game might pick up as a controller) - they may be interfering. If your character keeps walking right or left, you probably need to turn Arcade Stick Test Mode on or off in the game's settings.

  • If you're playing with a PS4 controller via DS4 and noticing that your character seems to fire charge shots early and other little control blips, the game is recognizing your controller as two devices; disable one of them.

  • If it seems like your game isn't saving (controls not saving, starting at tutorial with no unlocks, etc), your game can't write to My Documents/20XX/ - check the permissions on this folder and make sure the user account running 20XX can make/edit files there. (Running as admin would also fix this.)

  • For other control/technical issues, shoot me an email to chris AT batterystaplegames DOT com - please include your log.txt file (from the game's install directory, typically Steam/SteamApps/common/20XX) and tell me as much as you can about what's going on. Thanks!

What're you guys working on now?
These are big-picture items we're actively working on, and don't include things we're always working on like balance tweaks and bug fixing.
  • Ports - we're actively developing for XB1 and PS4 at this point, but the release for these systems are (at minimum) several months away (as of August 2017).

What's on your radar for the future?
These are items we'd like to do at some point, but aren't currently working on. Items in this list are not guarantees or promises - we'd like to do them, but we aren't sure exactly what the future of the game looks like yet. We're still figuring out the best way for us to package new content now that we're out of Early Access, and we'll update this section once we know.
  • Workshop integration/Piecemakers editor - we'd love for users to be able to make their own level pieces and share them with other users. We've got some grand plans here.

  • Content! More level pieces, console ports, more themes/bosses, more awesome weapons, more augs, etc.

  • More playable characters - we have plenty of ideas, but new characters are a ton of work.

Thanks for playing and helping shape the future of 20XX!

Is there a publicly availble roadmap for the game? I wanted to see if a planned feature was to be able to unlock more characters with different advantages and disadvantages for future runs through the game, like in The Binding of Isaac or FTL. Can a roadmap be posted somewhere for this game, like on your main site? Or are you trying to avoid the old customer service problem of promising something you might not be able to deliver?

Is there anywhere where you guys list the things your planning on adding to the game?

Every update, the changelog says what the plan for the next few patches is.

Currently, it says:

"For the next patch or three: Multiplayer stability work, boss work, The Item Patch (someday soon!), narrative work. We're also overdue for a basic small-bug-fix-set patch -- we have a few dozen tiny things that should really be fixed that we'll probably spend some time on this coming patch. We've gotten most of our big singleplayer crashes out of the way -- at least, the ones that our reporter sends us -- but there's one happening in online multi, and one game-quit we're still working on. (Send us your log if your game exits on you!) "

Okay great. I didn't want to sound stupid asking about long term game plans if they were listed somewhere. I was wondering if 1.you were planning on adding a final level/main boss after the 8 regular levels were completed, 2.if there was going to be a central story/plot added, and 3.if you were planning on rebalancing the levels and bosses (skytemple easier, forest level harder, gatekeeper easier), or if you like the disparity in difficulty. I didn't play much megaman, maybe skytemple type levels being super hard is nostalgic. Anyway thanks, the game is incredibly fun.

(Just sayin', I'm just a fan, not representative of Batterystaple etc etc etc i just like helping people :V)

1: They've definitely said a "Wily-esque" Level 9 is in the works (iirc, it'll be released when the game leaves Beta?)

2: There actually was some plot back in some of the earlier Alphas, but it got removed as it was fairly basic and I think BSG wanted to rewrite a few things. You were able to find "Datalore" randomly which unlocked bits of lore to read. Another update had a bit of conversation before each boss.. but I think that was removed as they thought the writing could be better (that, and it was a little intrusive)

3: Almost definite there's going to be a whole bunch of rebalancing going on soon, especially when it comes to bosses. Eridu [Skytemple] used to always be on levels 4 and 8, and was a lot harder than it is now - while I still think that Eridu is still the hardest of the four levels (which is also further proved by the fact that you never find Eridu as level 1), it's definitely come a long way since Alpha. ;o Although I think the levels will still have SOME difficulty differences, they won't near be as severe as they are now.

Pfft, you should have seen Agnisort [Flamelab] about 3 months ago, when the new level pieces were added. WOW did that level get difficult - arguably harder than Eridu, ESPECIALLY in the later half. Although I think that's definitely influenced me to get Agnisort out of the way fast now during runs, even if the difficulty's been tamed down a lot since then.

Seems pretty on track with what you promised for a while now. It's really cool to have this post, love the transparency. That level nine doe :)

The game is awsome, I think it needs an incentive to keep replaying, unlocking things that are not just items that appear randomly, maybe unlocking a new difficulty or gradually unlocking the ability to play daily / weekly challenges, or things you can choose before begining a lvl (tradeofs), skulls, etc. Also I think skulls should be rewarding, the harder it makes your game, the bigger the amount of souls you get or something like that. I also hope armor set bonnuses get to exist (edit: nvm, they exist and are awsome).

I love the game so far and would like to help you. Obvious reasons aside, how could a positve rewiev of mine help you? Does it increase the search relevance or something? A huge number of positve rewievs is obviously influencing someone who is not sure to buy it. Mainly interested in Steam mechanics here. I will probably write something nice soon. By the way, my favorite Streamer HerrDekay introduced this game to me. Maybe give free keys to streamers and youtubers since its fre advertising? You probably know and did this already. Have a great day everyone.
