Ace: A saber > Glaive > Spear = Food Processor > Axe The blender could be a lot more awesome if there was an aug that allowed it to lose charge slower, but that'd be hard to work out with all the other weapons. I've yet to try it with full dracopent, but depending on how it works I might move it above spear.
Honestly, the first three could go in any order - I like them equally and it really just depends on "which do I feel like using right now". Scatterblast is great for high-damage and just tears through bosses, Wave Beam is great at dealing with groups and I can aim the wave pretty well and the Star Beam is just.. well, it's just the best, really. The only reason I don't pick it up as often as I do is just that the other weapons are just more interesting, but not necessarily more powerful. (And I absolutely HATE the Forkalator's limited shot quantity. :T)
Ace: Spinning Glaive > A-Saber > Plasma Blender > Sharp Sharp Spear > Rippling Axe
Spinning Glaive needs a nerf against bosses, there's no doubt about that. A-Saber ranks so high simply because it's a GREAT Ace Primary, even though it's the one he starts with. Even so, I often end up switching to the Plasma Blender or Axe if I just want a bit more fun in my run. The only reason the Spear ranks so low in my list at the moment is simply because it's OP to the point of making the game less fun (whereas the Glaive isn't really OP as it is just bugged VS bosses at the moment)
My preference goes:
- Star Beam
I really like the multi-directional attacks. It makes clearing out sections in Sky Temple so much easier. (Or any challenge room where the objective is be swift... because proper positioning and you can attack 2-4 enemies at once.)
Even though Nina deals less damage by choosing this weapon the utility of other directions makes it the prime choice in my eyes.
(It's the second most prolific for me. Which is great, I like using this weapon.)
- Wave Beam
Great for Vaccuum Lab and disappearing block sections. The sine wave pattern on fire can be tricky to get used to... but the ability to attack through objects more than makes up for it.
- Forkalator
It's an ok weapon but I find the 45 degree shots not as useful as the Star Beam's 90 degree so generally I'll take this only if I have the N-Buster.
(Though I also very rarely ever see this one. Or if I do see it I already have Star Beam or Wave Beam... which I won't give up for this one.)
- N-Buster
Good old default.
- Scatterblast
Yeah... I generally don't take the Scatterblast. I like being able to stand back from enemies and shoot lemons at them (while riding on cars). Sure it does good damage up close... but I don't like having to get close.
(Coincidentally it seems like Scatterblast is the one that shows up most for me.)
I like Nina's regular the best. It's got the highest damage output of any other weapon she has, works well with all arms too.
The wave beam is all around OP, but doesn't fit as well with my aggressive style.
Forkalator has high damage output up close and good coverage. Star beam has the most coverage but does less damage unless you're point blank. Unnecessary if you have boomerang.
Scatterblast is only good against bosses and not all of them, avoid if you can.
I'm like the only one who absolutely loves the Forkalator. That 45 degree angle long shot can be extremely useful, especially in stages like Agnisort or Skytemple, where you may not necessarily be able to shoot directly up or down because of enemies standing on solid platforms in those stages or behind small solid walls. It hardly matters if you have the Forkalator, you almost always have a clear shot and this easily avoids a lot of otherwise necessary close-quarters confrontations.
Being able to avoid most enemy attacks with far, long-angled poke, as most enemies will attack in the four main compass directions is something I think is really overlooked. Even being able to jump over an enemy attack and still being able to pew-pew them due to the angles Forkalator pokes at is incredibly useful. The only downside to this weapon is that you can't (easily) rapid fire it at long range.
Wave-beam is my second favorite due to the sheer fact that with Armatort's arm, it shuts down pretty much any projectile threat with well-times charged shots, especially most bosses. Angel Ninteen does absolutely nothing because all projectiles get devastated. Vile Spider can't spawn any spiders, Kur gets absolutely shut down thanks to the wider range of clear due to its sine-wave pattern. Rollster basically can't do squat but roll around, and it multi hits all of the children that split. Twins really can't do anything about it as not only you clear their shots, but you can hit behind the solid platforms too. Then there's of course the fact it just shoots through walls in general. It still keeps all of its damage ratio, so not only is it great offensively, but it offers awesome utility. I only rate it below Forkalator because it only really shines in every situation IF you can find Armatort's arm, but if you do, it's easily better. The sine-wave pattern it does is the only downside over the weapon over the N-buster, and even that can be used to your advantage, it just requires a bit of learning.
I only rate Starbeam higher than N-Buster because being able to fire more bullets, as well in 4 compass directions is way more useful than doing 20% more damage which is usually not even an issue because even in the worst-case scenario for the gun, you'll be able to fire more bullets faster, usually allowing you higher DPS anyways unless you're not a fast button masher (which I am). However, I find myself using the multi-directional advantage far less than Forkalator, and it isn't for lack of trying. Being directly above or below something can still put you in danger a lot of the times, unlike a 45-degree angle. However, if I haven't manage to pick up damage, I usually skip this one for the N-buster, because the 2-4 damage difference can really hurt on how well you can clear enemies mid-late game, especially for bosses. That's a lot of additional hits required.
N-buster's only advantage is that it's Nina's biggest long-ranged heavy-hitting weapon, on par with the wave beam in damage. It's still a good weapon, especially if you manage to stack up a lot of damage. Plain and simple never means bad. Wave beam however is simply just a direct upgrade over it and Starbeam and Forkalator are always far better utility for it for very little cost on damage.
Scatterblast is a good weapon, but it's just simply not my style. I tend to end up doing more damage to a target by spamming the fire button extremely fast, and this usually ends up doing more damage output than Scatterblast usually does; and I don't have to pay all potential utility of range in order to do so. It has situations where it's better than all the rest of the weapons, but ultimately I'm just not a fan and will even leave it on the floor even if I find N-buster more times than I don't. I usually only pick it up if I already have extremely high attack damage and still haven't picked up any of the -other- weapons.
1) Forkalator - what the hell is aiming?
2) Wave - close behind, especially the potential multi-hits vs same target with charge shots are awesome
3) Star - the game doesn't seem to be build around this kind of directional coverage, feels too cheesey
4) Scatter - lack of range drops it to barely above default; still wanna see if it could 1-shot a stage 1 boss if I got it and Dracopent's Claw so early.
5) N-Buster - default, standard
Ace:
Didn't get the spinning glaive yet...
out of the others I prefer the default A-Saber the most
spear, blender - no preference
axe - dead last because of drop dead air attack
1) I think my favorite Nina weapon is the Scatterblast. Favorite, mind you, not most effective. I just enjoy doing a crapton of burst damage up front and the range really isn't that low. It's especially fun with the Dracopent Arm as the triple charge takes out basically any enemy and puts a huge dent in any boss.
2) Then it's probably the Star Beam because of its amazing coverage.
3) Wave Beam and Forkalator are kind of on the same level for me.
5) And the N-Buster is my least favorite not because it's bad, but because it's just not that exciting. If I get a chance to switch to another weapon, I drop the N-Buster immediately. However, the default is still really good.
Ace:
1) My favorite Ace weapon is either Plasma Blender or Spinning Glaive. The Glaive is probably much better, but the Blender is just so fun as it shreds through bosses. I'd say the Glaive is probably too good.
3) Then the Sharp Sharp Spear. Having a long range weapon with high damage is such a huge boon and makes up for the loss in vertical range.
4) The default Ace Saber is still an extremely good weapon, but again, it's just not as exciting because you use it all the time.
255) HAHAHAHAHA, the Rippling Axe is so awful! I can excuse a bad weapon if it was fun to use, but having to choose between getting hit, wasting time by going back to a previous platform or plummeting to your death isn't fun. It's just annoying.
I notice that there is a lot of variance in which weapon you like and that's a great thing and exactly as it should be.
Except everyone puts the Spinning Glaive pretty high and the Rippling Axe dead last, so there should probably be some changes towards those two.
1) Spinning Glaive: The spinning attack (mid-air/on walls) has insane DPS and very good range in all directions. You can shred enemies/bosses pretty much from every side. I only use the ground attack if there is something directly above me or I can't jump due to any other reason. Combine with hover/fly boots for ultimate destruction. I wouldn't be surprised if this weapon gets nerfed.
2) A-Sabre: Still a DPS that Nina can only dream of + decent horizontal and vertical range. If I don't get the glaive, I usually stick with this weapon.
3) Sharp² Spear: With its 2-attack combo it has the lowest DPS of all of Ace's weapons (which is a big downside if you're doing daily challenges and you have to go fast). Each item that increases your attack strength makes this gap even bigger. The lack of vertical range can also be really annoying. Good against enemies that are nicely lined up, waiting to be killed, as well as most bosses (although quite slow). Horrible against Perforator and Death Lotus. Many people consider this weapon OP due to its horizontal range, but I don't really mind getting close to enemies with the sabre, so the spear's range doesn't make up for the downsides described above.
4) Plasma Blender: Good against hordes of enemies that are close to each other, but if it cools down to its base size, I consider the weapon to be simply too dangerous to use due to its low range. Since the combo recognition update, I only take it if I have the Dracopent gloves. Bad against bosses that move a lot, especially against Rollster.
5) (C)Rippling Axe: The downward-stomp air attack and lack of a wall attack makes the weapon pretty much unusable for me (and seemingly to a lot of other people). Even then, the ground combo is probably not strong enough to make up for the lack of mobility (you can't walk while you attack). Haven't really used the axe in a while though, so I can't say much more.
Scatterblast and Wave beam are easily my favourites because they have the biggest effect on play style, changing up the combat style massively. Star beam is very close; the only reason I rate it lower is it's sort of boring compared to them. Forkalator beats the default weapon, but I'll take anything over it.
* Unless I'm playing online co-op. I stopped using Scatterblast as much online because it seems to be doing less damage when I play as the client (as mentioned here, if anyone else can confirm or help figure out what's going on).
Not much to say here. I'd love the Axe the most if the jump attack weren't obnoxious, but it is so it goes near the bottom. I just completely hate the Blender (which I always misname as "Plasma Shredder" for some reason). Spinning Glaive is just stupid fun.
