Honestly, I wish interesting times got removed entirely. It doesn't fit in with all the other prototypes at all. It's too vague and subtle for a prototype item with neither a massive benefit with a massive cost to it like all the others, especially if you get it by late game, it doesn't even do anything.
At the start of a level, it gives you a random bonus or negitive stat. I never bother taking it because I rarely see it do anything that actually is worth while. Not to mention the more "X+ at start of level" augs, the less chance there is you'll beable to even figure out what you got from it.
That random skull idea sounds awesome!
Except the thing about prototype augments is they give you a benefit in exchange for a price. This just gives you a nerf with no positive incentive to even go near it. Can't say I agree with the idea either. Whatever perk you get, this is a really bad trade off.
I think prototypes in general need some reworking, Consuming Fury is absolutely one of the best items in the game imo whereas earthmetal plating and leafmetal plating are pretty bad. Violence Enhancer has never been kind to me, and focusing sagelens only feels worth it if you have owlhawk, otherwise it just feels like a nerf, no matter what. I know they're supposed to be high risk high reward but some of them just feel like risk.
Well, I don't mind getting some of them if I know I haven't seen system restore yet. Picking up some of the augs and then finding a system restore is a pretty big risk with a major pay off.
I've never picked up Final Shell though. Its bonus is too temporary while the cost it requires is too permanent. Even with system restore, you get temporary armor for a temporary loss of health, and I usally take care of myself enough to take the least amount of damage possible anyways. Final Shell is only good if you are already near deaths door and use it as a desperate last attempt at surviving.
