I always did that in the X games. Trying to dash shoot and jump all on one button set is too much for one thumb to manage. Unless you have like super enormous thumbs or something.
I know dash jumps prevented air dash from working...
(Meaning dash jumps off walls too.)
Mega Man Zero went and put dash on L, and that's what forever made me use it for dashing.
Suddenly things felt much better, heh.
Wow, my bad, I definitly meant dash jumping. haha
Not sure why I typed wall.
I had tiny thumbs as a kid, and never had a problem! Now I have these stupid adult hands that aren't as suited for video games... ugh.
But now, I also have that sweet adult "job money" to buy video games!
You win some, you lose some.
Yeah some of the QoL improvements in 20XX are nice, but I would hang myself from a tall tree if they ever turned Megaman X into a "rogue-lite". It's fine for an indie game like this, but that would basically be like Activision turning CoD into PUBG. Oh wait....
Honestly when it comes to movement and whatnot I think 20XX is more based on megaman zero. Even the controls and how the character feels is the same.
I get what you are saying though. After playing the megaman zero games I just can't call the controls in megaman X fantastic. Great for sure but they just don't have that feel and precision.
Now with classic its not a problem cause aside from few differences between the games they usually are similar and fluent. Especially 9 and 10 also made by inticreates.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can air dash after dash jumping in 20XX either.
I actually don't feel like 20XX takes anything away from MMX series (or zero or ZX for that matter). I think they are all great in their own right and the framework of the game is built around the abilities you are given. 20XX has some absolutely insane platforming which requires the extra mobility.
In fact I think it's a big negative on this game because your run is greatly impacted by the randomness of the armor drops. I think it would serve the game far better if you could choose what armor and weapon load out you want before starting each run (and make the game more fun). MMX allowed you to do this in later entries and it added to the variety and fun of the game.
Yeah, back when I played the original X, I set up the controls so dash and jump were on the shoulder buttons. That way I could dash-jump, while charging a shot, and release the charged shot in the middle of my dash-jump if needed.
I mean, they're almost two different games, in a way.
20XX lets you play more fast and loose, whereas the MMX series is rigid and static in nature. There is a specific order in which you need to fight bosses, otherwise you're just doing yourself harm. X is never the character to pick unless you want the slowest possible gameplay (aside from X6 due to him having a saber there)
With Zero, simply dash, preform the first slash, repeat. You'll do insane damage because the first slash of zero's saber causes zero hit-stun-invincibility. So you can hit someone 10 times rapidly before their first move comes out, dodge that, get close and repeat once or twice and you've won without taking a scratch. X can do this when using the Z-Saber attack if you cancel the slash animation with a dash which you then cancel into another slash, repeating so that the second hit never happens. You're essentially doing the same thing zero can do, (ZSC - Z-Saber-Canceling)
Even the latter games like X7 and X8 live by this rule. X is just a bad character once you hit X4 and onward. It's strange too that they neutered the X6 version shipped with the legacy collection. They completely removed the original song "moonlight" in favor of some bland techno beepy stuff. I guess it was a license thing, but still. It makes me just wish the song was at least in the collection to listen to now and again. Especially since most rips are pretty poor quality, having a nice FLAC of it or something would be fantastic.
I love the Megaman X series, it's honestly one of my favorite series of games. But it's not a game series for people who want a challenge, or for people who want super fluid gameplay.
