Ship speed unstable
My ship speed keeps fluctuating randomely every second: 2kts, 5, 7, 2, 1, 3kts, etc.
What's that ? Looks like a bug ...
Any idea ?

Is your ship changing course? Is it in a Group with other units and trying to maintain formation?

Please if you find wierd situations save as a scenario file upload it somewhere and share the link so we can give it a look and DEVs will find and solve the bug

Course is unchanged. The speed problem occurs at both group and single ship levels. But it might be what you suggest, ie in a group and trying to maintain cohesion... not sure but very weird behaviour.
I have a save but don't know where to upload it. The scenario is Uncle Mark first tutorial.

google drive, dropbox.com , mega.co.nz, box.com and many other cloud services

So what i did is to detach my ship from the group so that they are single units and now, they refure to move. All stuck at 0t\kts whatever the order i give (creep, cruise, etc). when i try to set the speed manually, the cursor moves back to zero...

yeah i know these service but i don't want to open an account. I will find something without registration.

Loaded the save. I took the ships off manual speed mode and selected a new course (remaking it essentially). Worked fine. D 89 Exeter had some problem so I selected the course waypoint (first one) and set the speed mode for that and it was quite happy.

Hope this helps you carry on while you wait for a more definitive reply.

Thanks, it worked for me too. Strange ... Will see if/what devs have to say.
Thanks again.

I noticed this in C:NI yesterday - ships constantly adjusting speed.

After playing more on this scenario, I notice that if I detach all units from the group then the behaviour seems back to normal. So the problem seems to be linked with groups of ships.

Try changing the formation and group lead. Also check to see if you have sprint and drift enabled.
strykerpsg Mar 17, 2017 @ 5:09pm
All vessels equipped with a towed array or passive sonar use an ability called sprint and drift.

This allows them to quickly move to a spot along a course leg or area but have very degraded sonar listening capability while moving at high speeds because of water moving over the sonar microphones (transducers). The vessels will then drift to allow the microphones to readjust to a quieter setting and hear underwater noises with greater accuracy and bearing.

What you are experiencing is sprint and drfit. A very viable anti-submarine screening technique, not some sort of bug.

IMO the jumps of the speed of the ship are impossible. (in kts) 1 > 7 > 2 > 3 > 0 > 6 etc. such random jumps in less than a second ...
And it seems to be linked with groups because when i detached the ship from the group the behaviour was back to normal.
