Primal Carnage: Extinction

A Review of Ceratosaurus
Yeah I'm gonna be that guy.

Honestly, Cerato's not that bad. Functionality wise he's great, has a good model, cool mechanics and overall a rather impressive follow-up to Acrocanthosaurus (though nothing will ever compare to the amount of hype the Acrocanthosaurus reveal in like the second trailer generated)

The skins available atm are pretty good save for the Wild Cerato (The head is way too vibrant imo). Blue Monarch is fantastic.

Unfortunately, no positives are without the negatives. Keep in mind that from this point onward this is just my personal opinion and I'm allowed to have those on the internet allegedly.

The hitbox on the tail slap is...very strange. I've been told it has a "sweet spot" if you angle it just right? If you're standing on the complete opposite side of where the Cerato swings its tail, you still get hit anyway? Is the tail swing's hitbox on the actual tail or is it just a giant fat square on the rear of the animal. Either way it's incredibly annoying.

The animations. Yeah they have life to them, but my main issue with the Ceratosaurus' animations are how...cartoony they are. I'm fully aware Primal Carnage isn't going for realism with acid spitting Cryolophosaurus and gargantuan Rexes, but the thing is, the unrealistic dinos have a sense of realistic movement to them. The way a Spino charges feels natural and understandably cumbersome, given the huge sail on its back. How a Carno sprints by tucking its head down and ramming into people gives a sense of "This is going to hurt me more than it hurts the dinosaur". The Ceratosaurus, lacks a form of realistic movement with how it bounds to and fro. The arms look incredibly goofy with how they're used in attacks, even more so when Cerato roars and becomes enraged.
TLDR; Cerato moves in too much of a cartoonish, bouncy manner for such a heavily built, stocky looking dinosaur.

Let me know what your thoughts are on Cerato. Do you hate it? Love it? Somewhere inbetween?

I hate how easy he is to shut down with netguns, one netgun, you done, can't run, only thing it can do is the tailwhip if it still has stamina and no one with a brain will get close to it while netted.

I believe just like the carno, nets should only prevent it from biting and roaring, not slow him down to a crawl. Also, he can get netted from any angle, back, forward up, down, you dont even need to aim to its head. Its damn awful. :FlyingFlat:

They should just fix to aim to his head, if a net stop a tyrant from running, so it should be the same for Carno and Cerato i think

A Tyrant can afford to to be netted. They won't get waisted in 3 seconds. :Spino:

This is explained in the patch notes. I'd actually post it but it seems that's not possible with the way the announcements are done now.

From personal experience and from my point of view, cerato is a lovely sub-class too carno.
But there is problems, cerato shouldnt 2 hit people while charging this makes carnotaurus a redundant character if cerato can do the same AND 1vs1 the entire human roster easier.
honestly cerato feels like it would be balanced having this nerf, but just incase i also propose giving it a head hitbox similar too tyrants, so that being netted is more skill based, nobody wants to be running as cerato and have their tail get caught by a stray net hitbox and get forked over but at the same time it feels completely fair that if you turn around as a trapper and see a cera coming headlong at you that you immobilize them.

Personally I love the Cerato animations, they're so lively and energetic. I wouldn't describe them as cartoony. It still has that realistic bounce to it when it runs and its general movements are pretty lifelike. The Cerato's animations are like a mix of a crocodile and a jaguar, it gives it a unique personality.

They both have different playstyles of sorts, in my experience at least; Carno is more of the hit and run Bruiser, while Cerato runs into the action to get up close and personal with the enemy. It may seem like Cerato makes Carno redundant but, some people may find Carno easier to use and just prefer that sort of way to play.

That is the point of a Sub-Class. It's a similar character with a variation to it, same as every other Sub-Class in the game.

Carno is great for hit and run tactics

Cerato is great for attempting to clear out a room.
