Primal Carnage: Extinction

Primal Carnage: Extinction

Let's talk about Get To The Chopper mode.
We all know what is Get To The Chopper game mode. But if you are new, and haven't heard of this mode (which I doubt), let me tell you about it. GTTC is objective based game mode, where humans have to escape in the helicopter, but dinosaurs disturb them. In this mode, we meet a new character - a helicopter pilot, who gives us clues during our journey through the wild lands, and takes us off the island. That's it about describing GTTC. Also, at the end I'll report some bugs. Okay, let's assume it was an introduction, now let's talk about it.

So, in my opinion, GTTC is still the best game mode, but to be honest, in the first game it was much better. Well, the gameplay has not changed. Humans still still have to flee the island, and dinosaurs still try to kill them. So what was better in the first game then? Climate and the entire outline of the mode. So let's get started about it.

First thing I want to discuss is pilot. As you probably noticed, he not very talkative person. But what do I mean? He is he talks a lot, calling for survivors, and tells us to open the fuel valve. And that's all he does (excluding taking us off). In original game, he was instructing us step by step what to do. Original game has more lines than Extinction (original - about 15, Extinction - about 11) Also, in my opinion, the voice actor was more talented (it's not that important but it's worth mentioning). There's one more thing about the pilot, but more on that later.

Next thing - unique class. Yes, original Primal Carnage has unique class on GTTC - Spinosaurus. But why is that unique? Original game has 4 game modes: deathmatch, deathmatch swap, capture the egg and get to the chopper. Only GTTC has Spinosaurus (unless you have s&c mod, but let's say that you don't). In original game, Spino was very potent, very fast, and durable class. It could do a double attack (bite+claw swipe). This made spino an extremely difficult opponent. Now Spino is on all game modes, just like other dinos, and isn't so special. In fact, Spino is now the weakest tyrant - very slow, easy to assride by humans. I know that tyrants are support, and should stay with team, but Acro and Rex can deal with humans alone (unless they hide in buildings).

Another thing is capturing system. In original game, if humans won't be capturing for a while, whole capture is failed, that made gameplay more exciting. For humans, in this system there was one advantage - they could capture even if dinosaur is in capture precinct.

The last thing about GTTC. More consistent objectives. Original game has these. I'm talking about objectives like "contact the pilot" or "capture working radio". Also, objectives fit together. Here comes the last thing about the pilot. In original game, his lines were matched to objectives. If you don't understand this babble, here are some examples:
-escape in the helicopter - pilot says a sentence with the expression "get to the chopper", like "Now when the fuel valve is open, get to the chopper", or "Ok, you're almost there. Get to the ship and then get to the chopper". These are only on Downpour and The Docks; The Falls has expression "Ready for pick up?" and Ruthless has "That's it, I've got your position"
-contact the pilot - on The Falls there are no lines until we contact him, after we do, we get objective "escape in the helicopter" or something like that". On Downpour, when we try to capture first objective (contact the pilot), we can hear pilot calling for survivors ("Hallo? Can anyone hear me?", Halo? Is anyone out there?" and "If you can hear this, please respond."). On The Docks and Ruthless We were contacting pilot on every step, so there wasn't objective "contact the pilot".
That's it about comparations with original game. Now time for bugs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. On some maps rotter doesn't work on cutscenes. That small thing, but can ruin your day. No, I'm just kidding, but this thing, no matter how small, may be painful.

2. On cutscenes, you can see cosmetic items of players who stood in these places. Again, small thing, but looks ridiculous.

3. We all know glitch with ptera dropping human under map. On several maps, if human is dropped under helipad, he will stuck there, but still can capture. Also, this human can't be killed. If ptera dropping humans under map can't be fixed, at least humans that are under helipad and still capture could be fixed.

4. The weirdest bug is on The Docks. When you try to open additional ways (gate between A and B and bridge between C and D), they are opened by just starting opening them. When you touch these objective, you don't even have to finish capturing because no matter what, they will be opened. But there is also reverse of this bug - sometimes additional ways doesn't open even if you capture them. I would be really suprised if it's not bug or glitch, but done on purpose.

That's it. Now let's summarize it up. Gameplay hasn't change since original game, but in Primal Carnage GTTC is more climatic, and as we know external appearance, presentation of game and audio-visual setting is as important as gameplay. Since original game Spino has been relegated to regular class. But there is one more little thing that I want to discuss. Why did I make a real essay out of trivial topics? Well, I don't like leaving things missing. Also, I want to be precise. If you have a question or your own thoughts - write in the comment.

Firstly I'd like to state Spino being the "worst" tyrant is a really weird opinion because it's easily the best. It has the most reliable secondary, and it has way more health than the other tyrants. If you're running around with tyrants or putting yourself in a position for humans to get behind you you're not playing tyrant right, anyways. You should be avoiding the open like the plague, you're a whale sized target, make that target as small as possible.

Other than that, I do agree, GTC was better in the original. GTTC in PCE feels kind of rushed and has been very buggy for years since release. Wins and losses are handed out improperly at the end of rounds, capturing graphic does not actually line up to the actual time left to capture, matches ending when time isn't up, captures being way too slow to ever realistically capture (try playing GTC Falls- it's basically impossible, especially because the tyrant is available for most of the match rather than the beginning as it was in PC) All these bugs make the gameplay of the mode essentially meaningless because you get almost nothing from it. Why even bother caring if you capture the point or not when half the time it doesn't even capture properly, or your team will be given the win even though you blatantly lost? It just has a lot of weird things like that which make the gamemode feel... uncompetitive. Like yes, I get that PCE is supposed to be somewhat arcade-ish and easy to get into, but there's a difference between that and feeling like there's no point in trying because player input is essentially meaningless. If they fixed the capture points and game win/loss assignments, plus fixed some of the more poorly balanced points (First two points of Ruthless, last point and third to last point of GTC The Falls, First and last point of docks) I think that would help fix it a lot more. Don't really care too much about the voice clips, I think the new ones are funny though I do wish there was some form of announcement when a point changed other than the objective moving.

I wrote it before spino get better claw swipe. I just copied it to make it "fresher". Before buffing spino, it was very easy to assride and slow. Just forgot to remove this opinion. Also, I forgot to mention that in my feeling, GTTC in PCE seems forced, because original game has this gamemode, so Extinction have to have this gamemode too, because it's Primal Carnage.

No one plays it though. It was fun.
