I was a fan. Primal Carnage being one of the first games I bought when my pc finally was upgraded by my brother from an old Pentium 4 cube I had. I bought this game along with Depth, Dota 2 and CS: GO. Suffice it to say, I had so much fun with the game. The game was never competitive for me (had other games to fill that void), it just had that pull on me being a homage to Jurassic Park and dinosaur games in general.
I wasn't I admit an amazing player, I could certainly dominate with some of the classes but not all (was terrible with the Pteranodon). And yet in spite of this, I could not stop playing. My favourite mode being GTTC. In my opinion, Primal Carnage started the "Dinosaur Game Renaissance" Period which saw a surge in dinosaur-themed games like The Isle, Dino D-Day and Ark: Survival Evolved. The game was fun, the atmosphere it had sold it for me. The maps were really good and playing either faction had its own enjoyment (I could list so many great moments but won't s oas not to extend this post any longer than necessary).
I was like a lot of you excited for Primal Carnage: Extinction and sure I've played it on and off over the years but I think it goes without saying that it is a game that has had a large decline in its playerbase. It was a buggy mess and still suffered from many of the balancing issues the first game had. Sure there were updates but it does to me feel like all they did was put a slab of new paint over the original game and just made it run sleeker.
Unfortunately (and this is gonna sound controversial but bare with me as I make my case) it is a game that whilst did introduce new content catered too much to modes that it was never truly meant to cater for to begin with and that is mostly Roleplaying. Yes we got other modes like survival but hardly anyone played it after a few months. I feel like another problem it has is that this new content lacked proper promotion. Go back to the original primal carnage trailers and see how much promotion was put into it. Not to mention that when GTTC was announced with its own trailer, do you see how much hype was generated from this? Sadly the devs team didn't really do anything to promote their new content further beyond the main game.
Furthermore, the fact that they resorted to relying on skins which in turn mean microtransactions shows that this is a game that naturally will decline in playerbase because people are not going to fork out extra money for cosmetics if the base game is not fun to play anymore. And this is not even accounting for the fact that we were promised other content too such as a new Charger class (Ceratosaurus), as well as Primal Carnage: Genesis.
So what does this mean in the long run? I'm sad to say it but unless the devs are able to get this game some much needed help, it will go extinct like its namesake. This is sad because I like many of you played this game for the love of it. It has a great concept that is still relevant even today (and especially with the release of movies like Jurassic World 2 etc).
I've noticed that even the Primal Carnage forums have been shutdown which tells me even more that this franchise is on life support. I don't know if the developers at LukeWarm are reading this but if you are, please seek some help.
Also pro tip when making a game: Don't release new game modes (unless they are really good and people are going to play them like crazy) when you have a small and declining player base.
I do feel they could have expanded and improved upon on already popular modes like gttc and TDM. I felt like that would be better vs working on Survival and the forgotten game mode aka that one where there is and invisible raptor and humans got to kill it.
The game that marked the revolution of dinosaur games. The game that came in a time where dinosaurs would become more mainstream (jurrasic world). The game that was so dear to some of our hearts, is dead. (dead for reasons i mentioned earlier).
Welp GG Primal Carnage. You could have been great, you could have been Primal Carnage: Genesis. You could have been a franchise. But Primal Carnage: Extinction happened and its poor execution and rushed launch has doomed this franchise.
This thread you could say is kinda pointless but i just wanted to express how this game is dear to many's hearts and to see it die like this is just, sad. For me it was - one of the first few games on steam and my pc that i got.
R.I.P Primal Carnage (2014-2018).
And with that i end this and have nothing else to say here.
