Where did my butterfly net go?

Hi,
I clicked on the butterfly net but somehow it's disappeared from my inventory. I've restarted the game, and when I click on hints it keeps telling me to click where the carpet is. When I click where the carpet is it says "I can't really see anything there".
Can anyone help?

Probably too late for you, but If anyone else has this issue, certain tools you reuse like the flashlight, lizard thing, butterfly net, and so on, get a little icon on the edge opf the circle on the right hand end of the bar at the bottom of the screen (to the right of your inventory when open), and hang around until the task they are related to (such as catching the four fireflies or whatever they are) has been completed.
