PATCH NOTES

New Features:

Implemented Gamma setting, available in the Display section
Implemented the ability to reset individual skills in the skill tree
The current dungeon floor is now displayed in More Info and Squad Info
Implemented additional scene in Cemetery cutscene

Balancing:

Added a Churl, a Carver, and a Hurler to The Many's starting roster
Increased the starting number of units affected by The Many's special ability from 3 to 5
Capped The Many's flat damage, flat armor, and flat dodge skills at 3 instead of 5
Increased stat values for The Many flat dodge and flat armor
Changed how Garg displays Chained stats + minor tweak to stats

Fixes:

Fixed bug causing unintentional switch to Banish mode when using Banish hotkey in Wraith Vendor
Updated Oath progress display to take into account units that change tags at top tier (i.e. Dreadmaul)
Prevented input to squad recruitment screen while inspecting Oath progress
Added Arcane unit description to Oath of the Conjurer

The experimental branch gets access to new builds before the main branch. Switch to the experimental branch to test new builds before they are released to everyone else. Please report any issues using the "Send Bug report" button in the main menu. If there are no issues - please comment here to let us know!

To access the experimental branch: Right click Skull Horde in your Steam library. Click Properties -> Game Versions & Betas -> opt in to the experimental branch. Ensure the game updates before you launch it.

Warning

Updates are tested before they are uploaded, but there is always a risk that we have missed something. If you are on the experimental branch, please back up your savefile manually from time to time (particularly around updates). If anything goes wrong we will help you restore your save.

PATCH NOTES

New Features:

Hovering over units in squad recruitment now shows what Oaths they would contribute to, even if there is currently no progress towards that Oath

Fixes:

Fixed bug that prevented "More Info" opening after visiting Tome of Knowledge in game
Additional changes to run end screen to attempt resolution of locking bug
Completed Oaths are now stacked in HUD to reduce vertical space usage
Fixed bug that allowed Adam to skill up flies out of sequence

What a great dungeon crawler/ auto-battle roguelite! It offers various difficulty options, and all achievements can be done on the easier settings. Took me around 30h to 100%, but I really enjoyed taking my time farming gold to make my army way too strong :P. It has no missable achievements.

Approximate time to 100%: ~30 hours
Estimated achievement difficulty: 3/10
Minimum number of playthroughs needed: Not really playthroughs but many runs, which is usual for a roguelite
Is there a good guide available: No, but you don't really need a guide
Multiplayer achievements: No
Missable achievements: No
Grinding Achievements: No, but leveling up a character can help you out with some of the achievements
DLC-Only achievements: No
Speedrun achievements: Yes, there is an achievement for finishing a run within 10 minutes. Easiest with a leveled-up character on the Arena map, as you don't have to search for the exit.
Time-gated achievements: No
RNG-achievements: No
Does difficulty affect achievements: No, you can play on easy and use the "explore" mode, however, the 10-minute achievement might be easier on Peril mode.
Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No, however, at the time of writing this some achievements don't work on the live version, but you have to go to the experimental version. However, this will be the live version soon.
Gamepad or mouse and keyboard: I preferred to play with a gamepad

I have enjoyed the previous games from 8BitSkull, so I was already hyped about them making a new game, and it is great! This is a roguelite dungeon crawler with auto-battle features. You play as a skull whose body betrayed you, and now it is your time to take revenge. You select troops and go into battle. The troops will auto-attack enemies that are close, but you have a bit of control with your skills, where you're standing, and you can call the troops closer to you. However, most of the control comes from the units you choose and the skills you choose, as they make each run a bit different.

What I love about Skull Horde is the gameplay and the chance to really feel overpowered, as well as the amount of difficulty settings, so you can change the experience to what type of game you prefer. And what 8BitSkull did great is that the achievement will let you explore all kinds of strategies and settings. Especially in a roguelite, this is great! It gives you things to go for while also farming experience and leveling up your character(s).

What I found out way too late is that you can pin achievements on your screen during the run to see your progress. Having to kill enemies with a specific attack 100 times, and having no idea how far you're? You can open the menu and pin that achievement to your screen so you can see the counter go up. Such a helpful feature!

None of the achievements in Skull Horde are missable. I would recommend waiting with some of them until you're further into the game, like the 10-minute run and endless mode. However, most of them you can try to work on from the start.

I give Skull Horde 4 out of 5 stars.

The game offers a fun blend of Vampire Survivors-style gameplay and auto-battler mechanics. If you enjoy commanding hordes as a necromancer or prefer games you can comfortably play using just a mouse then this one’s definitely worth trying. The developers also deserve credit for adding customizable difficulty options, letting every player find their ideal balance between challenge and fun.

What starts as a simple “just one more run” roguelite quickly turns into a full-blown skeleton management career. You’re not just fighting enemies—you’re building an army of bony little overachievers who swarm the screen like they’ve got performance reviews due Monday morning. The progression loop feels great, upgrades actually matter, and every run gives you that almost had it energy that keeps pulling you back in.
The combat hits that sweet spot between chaotic and controlled. There’s always something exploding, multiplying, or getting overwhelmed in a very satisfying way, but it never feels random. When your build clicks, you go from fragile necromancer intern to full-time apocalypse supervisor real fast.
Also: there is something deeply satisfying about solving problems by deploying more skeletons. Honestly, more games should try this.

Pros
Addictive “one more run” gameplay
Fun upgrade/build variety
Army scaling feels powerful and earned
Chaos in the best possible way 💀

Cons
You will say “last run” and then play 6 more
Your skeleton workforce never unions (yet)

If you like roguelites, swarm builds, or the general strategy of “overwhelm everything with spooky coworkers,” this one’s an easy recommend.

It's pretty much impossible to go with The many past the first "kill the enemy elite". I've tried multiple different approaches and its just so frustrating. Actual horde? nope. Root and disarm? Nope. Crits and effects? nope. How do you do ANYTHING on that character...

Adam needs a rework

I have played every hero and even maxed out one. I have fully beaten the game and have quite a bit of playtime and find this game very enjoyable. Alas, Adam needs some help. He's fun to play but too nerfed. The combination of his units costing extra and the massive respawn timer make the runs frustrating. Many times I have wiped on the first wave of enemies on a level, or I have my ability based army up and running but then randomly die as the last of my primary army units joined the ability based army ...
