Can someone please recommend me any movies or tv series with similar "feel" like life is strange?
I dont mean time rewind consept, but "warm", "yellowish" atmosphere, maybe a bit mystical. With nice music like LiS if possible.
I already have Twin Peaks on my list, would love to see your suggestions.
  • Twin Peaks
  • Donnie Darko
  • Eureka
  • Juno
  • Take Shelter
  • Veronica Mars
  • Stand by Me (1986)

Although I haven't seen it myself, I've heard this game be compared to Donnie Darko numerous times.

The Butterfly Effect, Donnie Darko

As for TV shows I'd recommend Eureka which takes place in a small town in Oregon :P

The game was partially inspired by Juno

Donnie Darko + Twin Peaks (of course), The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, ERASED (Boku dake ga Inai Machi, still airing), The Butterfly Effect (yuck), La Jetée (maybe, kinda trippy), Mr. Nobody (didn't really like it though)
Guys, this may sound really hilarious, but when you think about those warm colors and blurry-ish style - I think of my favorite move which is "Fabolous World Of Ameli". :LIS_butterfly:

It kinda reminded me of the UK version of the TV show Skins in a way. Has that similar teen drama feel to it and im pretty sure it even used the same music.

Really like that description! Definitely:
  • Garden State (tone/mood, yellowish/autumn-feeling, soundtrack(!), dialogue/characters)
Plus already mentioned: Donnie Darko, Juno

the following movies/series more by tone/pacing and some which share certain elements:
  • Magnolia (story elements/mechanics. Magnolia is about episodes of people connected to each other, and their are not getting their sh*t together basically, and there is a looming event, which only one (maybe two) characters know about. it features a "deus ex machina" function for all the character's stories.)
  • Butterfly Effect (mechanics & "world" rules)
  • Final Destination (mechanics & "world" rules)
  • Flight of the Navigator (1986, includes time travel through light speed, feels a little bit like "Stand by Me" with Sci-Fi elements, -- not 100% *that* epic though)
  • Groundhog Day
  • Gone Home (a video game though!)

PS: Sorry for my English, it's late. ;)

The TV series "I Am Not Okay with This" makes me think they played the game and made a show nearly directly from the game.

an admittedly older but similar series would be "Wonderfalls"
For any Western live action TV series, I'm surprised no one has mentioned My So Called Life on this thread!

For anyone looking for something similar to LiS, those two anime titles are a must watch for any LiS fan, even if you are not into anime.

I'd strongly recommend as well Makoto Shinkai's latest films: Your Name. (aka Kimi no Na wa) and Weathering With You (aka Tenki no Ko). These two films also feature surprisingly excellent songs on their respective soundtracks.

For anyone looking for other, but similar anime TV shows or films:

  • Steins;Gate - one of the very best time travel stories found in anime. A major bonus for LiS fans in particular: Ashly Burch voicing one of the major characters for the show's English dub.
  • A Silent Voice (aka Koe no Katachi) - while it features no supernatural powers, this 2016 anime film features social issues bullying and suicide in a surprisingly touching manner.
  • Kokoro Connect - an anime series featuring five teenage friends in high school who have to deal with various supernatural phenomenon that I feel strongly fits the description of what one Dontnod developer said what makes a story in the LiS universe: "believable characters and a good story, and that tackles some actual subjects of society's problems and that kind of stuff, and puts the [audience] in some interesting situations. And in the end, you've got the supernatural element..."
  • Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai - probably the most clickbaity title I've seen for a popular anime series. While its most basic elements is somewhat similar to Kokoro Connect - high school students who have to deal with supernatural phenomenon - this entry was surprisingly hard hitting for it's emotional moments (both on the joyful and depressing side).

La Jetée was mentioned, but also consider Twelve Monkeys, which was based on it. It's strangely emotional once the mystery comes to light.
Also of note is a sci-fi movie from nearly a decade ago, Los Cronocrímenes, or Timecrimes in English markets. Slow-paced mystery thriller with a nice (if predictable) twist. The main character suffers and struggles until the reveal.

Timecrimes is indeed a very enjoyable Time-themed Thriller.
On that note I would recommend the nerdiest, but best Time-related film Primer, despite (or maybe because) its super-low budget.

What remains of Edith Finch may be also to your liking, although it's atmosphere reminded me most of a Wes Anderson film.

Have to check out some of the suggestion in this thread now :)

- I am not okay with this: Netflix series about a girl with rather realistic anxiety issues (not your tipical teen drama) she also has a dangerous power, there's a lot of warm cinematic shots and indie-ish music.
- A Monster Comes: Drama film of a boy whose mother is dying of cancer and in the attempt to cope makes an imaginary world (rather creepy but with amazing animation) out of his own drawings. The ambience is a bit gloomy and he's always in a sort of hill or woods by the town.
- The Perks Of Being A Wallflower: Coming of age-ish movie based on the book by the same name (that I like better because of some skipped scenes and dialogue), the protagonist is an introvert with depression and trauma because he lost his friend to suicide and his aunt abused him, but none of that is explicit, it's more focused on him finding comfort and love with the misfit seniors of his new school, the soundtrack is a bunch of iconic classics like the final bridge shot with Heroes by David Bowie playing
Also maybe Blade Runner 2049, has nothing similar with LIS in terms of plot but the cinematography and music is just magical and kind of nostalgic.

Edit: oh wow I just noticed we necroed this, sorry
