The importance of the butterfly
The game puts focus on a butterfly twice. If you don't know this is in refernce to the butterfly effect. Also the Butterfly effect is part of chaos theory. So when Max takes a picture of the butterfly and draws one on the fireplace] it symbolizes the start of a butterfly effect

The ending of ep3 is SO in the mood of "the butterfly effect" (the movie)

It puts more emphasis on it in other cases - on certain events a butterfly symbol in the top left corner marks a decision that will have a significant impact.

This game takes the conventions of alot of time travel movies.

Could also represent the metamorphosis of Max and the world around her.

Imagine a parallel universe where a butterfly with time-travel-powers has max drawn all over its room
