Seriously Strict Command Input?
I was just wondering if you guys notced how damn strict the command input is in this game. I mean I'm no fighting game noob and have played a pretty decent amount of fighting games. I've played a good amount of SFIV and KOFXIII and I know king of fighters is considered strict. I'm using an Etokki Omni stick with all Sanwa parts. Yea so just wondering if you guys have noticed or maybe I'm imagining things?

Compared to other fighting games, the input system is actually pretty linient, close to SF4 IMO.

I was just in training mode having issues getting the d, df, f commands to go, and forget the double fireball supers. Wonder if it's something with my stick, or maybe a configuration issue?

Ok this is Definitely not on SF level this game requires the DF to be hit to pull of "fireballs" and it seems to have some sort of lag if you input it very quickly, even if I'm riding the gate. It seems if I literally slow down my input it goes off including the double fireballs, I'd say I was rusty if I didn't just test out my stick in KOF.

SF4's not a very good example. It has a lot of input shortcuts, huge buffer windows, stupid unblockable setups and teaches you some really bad habits that end up throwing you off more technical games that rely on fundamentals. The later KoFs aren't much better. This game has none of that nonsense.

Seriously play SF4 for a while then go back to SF3. Even if you're not rusty on parries, you'll get bodied.

You just have to remember to do full stick movements for Yata. It was made to be strict on purpose, both to preserve the retro feel and to prevent the player from throwing stuff out unintentionally. It's actually a really good thing.

I'd love to go back to SF3 but I only have a PS4 and PC in my house currently so I'm SOL. Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street fighter 3: Third Strike are easily my favorite fighters of all time. (I know you were referring to the later.)

lol yep

But yeah I'm using a HRAP VX-SA and there's no execution issues on my end. You just need to retrain yourself to do clean inputs instead of shortcuts, and get some muscle memory going with your links.

Practice makes perfect!

Nice to meet someone else with a legit stick instead of a bunch of mad catz crap. Friend me XD. SOOOOO I unchecked the "digital xbox controller" option or whatever it's called and seem to be having an easier time.

Sorry but SF4 and KOF13 are easy mode execution wise, Yata is very close to older KOF (MVS era) where you had to enter the proper command.
Just take it easy and make sure you hit all the directions required.
Do the commands slowly a few times then speed it up.

Actually feels about the same as KOF now, I'm with you on SF but KOF is no EZ mode I don't think most people woudl say it is.....I guess the "digital xbox controller" option or whatever it's called was really messing me up. I actually feel like this game is pretty shallow tbh. Really disappointed at the effort put into certain aspects, mirror characters and moves, and poor stage design. Hopefully they update and make it better I'm all for more people entering the 2D figher market.

I'd say more lenient than not. Not as strict as kof, but not quite as easy as sf. Somewhere in the middle.(probably like an old version of kof - 98 or 2002)

I find it impossible to combo cr.LK xx dp+P in this game (always get fireball), while I don't have problem doing it in any old KOF game, so yeah, I put the input buffer in this game down as infuriating.

KoFXIII's input buffer is lenient to the point of causing problems. Problems that don't exist in older games, mind you. It's actually very easy, it's only a hard game on inputs if you started fighting games with Street Fighter 4.

Also, the reason it's easier to do a crouching light into DP in older KoF is the very huge amount of hitstop those games had since they expect you to be able to confirm off of a single hit. Yata's hitstop is closer to 3S, but 3S had DP shortcuts so it was a bit easier to get it out, but still pretty difficult from a light normal.
