Bears and the big bad wolf
Finished the Campaign, but was unable to accomplish a few things, namley kill any Bears or the big bad wolf. Arrows weren't effective on them, at least for me, I'd get off two shots before being mauled. If you managed it, what was the tactic that worked for you?

My safest strategy for bears is to put down 1-3 traps just outside of his radius, then shoot him with an arrow or two. He'll charge towards you, and die from a combination of arrows + traps. How many of each I use really just depends on what resources I have available.

There are actually two special wolves, but they act mostly the same. I've killed them with snakes and traps by luck, but the only way that I've found that is reliable enough is to use a gas jar (don't remember the exact name) to stun them for a short time then move closer and shoot 3 arrows as fast as you can charge the aim to guaruntee all of them hit. If you're close enough you should only need to half charge each arrow, and you'll have just barely enough time to shoot all 3 before the stun wears off and the wolf runs away. Using the quick shortcut keys really helps to switch from the jar to the bow fast enough.

Thank you for the suggestions, I never messed with the gas jars and will give them a try on my next play.

The way I deal with bears is:
- Place two traps near his den
- Place a third trap a bit further away
- Stand in font of the third trap but behind the two traps (The third trap doesn't need to be triggered it's only a safety trap)
- Shoot an arrow at the bear (The bear will start walking towards you and activate the two traps)
- Try to shoot one more arrow (This will kill the bear)
- If you miss the arrow, just run behind the trap and the bear will die (2 traps + 2 arrows or 3 traps + 1 arrow).

It's more efficient to use two traps only, you can then pick up the last trap if you managed to kill the bear only using two traps, and it's always nice to have a safety net if you miss the second arrow (don't be too confident in shooting arrows, sometimes you miss even a fully charged shot aimed perfectly)

When it comes to boss wolves. They act very similar to regular wolves, just a little bit smarter. This is how they differ:
- You can't kill them with arrows (If you shoot them once, they run away)
- You can't kill them with tainted meat (They will only smell it and then run away)
- You CAN kill them by luring them into a trap
- If they bite you, they will run away

If you want to kill them, you should place a trap somewhere where the wolf will go. Just be careful not to get bit while you're placing the trap or the wolf will escape. You can then stand behind the trap to try and get the wolf to run in or you can even toss some meat / tainted bait behind the trap to lure the wolf to it and have it activate the trap as it's walking towards the meat.

I never heard of the big bad wolf. There's an elder wolf and the white wolf. The elder wolf is a slippery sucker. Throwing a bait at him doesn't work so I had to use a spiked trap. The white wolf took the bait and died just like the regular wolves.

Bears I take out with 3 traps. Not too close to one another otherwise it will walk through them without them going off. I lay the three then fire an arrow at it and run through the traps which take it out.

For me the elder wolf would not touch the tainted meat, raw meat and the poison plant, he'd sniff it and run off. He also pursued very quickly, once we spotted each other , I either had to throw bait or run, not enough time to deploy a spear trap before he'd rush me. And believe me when I say I gave spear traps my best shot before just resorting to throw bait or run. Having never managed to kill him, I never saw the white one. Guess I'll try more caution with very small moves and try to spot them before they spot me and not have it be simultaneously.

I had the same problem with the elder wolf. It took me 3 attempts to get it. How I caught it was to scare it off by waving the staff at it. I then quickly set up the trap between me and it then walked away from it. It obviously chased me and got caught in the trap. It makes a great coat because it will sometimes absorb wolf attacks. They strike but you don't get cut.

You can keep it and every attacking animal at bay by running back to the start near the jetty. Where the timber slats are on the ground the animals wont run onto it. It's not a big aarea but it's a great place to stand and strategize.

I tried lighting a torch to buy time when I unexpectedly ran into too many wolves to escape fast to the area near the raft where wild animals wont follow. Or while the torch is equipped I set up a spear trap.
So far spear traps worked best on elder wolves as well.

To my great surprise, I took down the elder wolf on my first try. Left the jetty and it was immediately there at the edge of the screen. I don't know if anyone else has can confirm this, but it seems to me that the EW is like, wary of traps? If you get its attention, it'll chase you, but won't cross over a spear trap. What ended up working was a spear trap and some tainted bait (any meat would probably work though). It won't actually eat anything you put down, but it'll come over to sniff it. Place it right and it'll walk into the spear trap.

The bear won't even sniff anything, but that's okay; unlike wolves, bears won't move towards you until you attack or get too close, so you can take your time getting things set up. I had two spear traps between it and me (and required + one safety), chucked a gas bomb at it, to confuse it long enough to get two arrows into it before it runs towards you and into the trap. If you only get one arrow into it, just run back behind the second trap, and you'll be fine.

I hope that helps!

Is just my imagination or rain makes more difficult for wolfs and boars to see you? I found a wolf sleeping on a rainy night so a could aproach it quite a lot before it saw me. Something similar happened with a boar. Do you know for sure if weather or night affects their ability to spot you?
