Game wont let me switch my graphics card [SOLVED]
So I got on today and I was give the message "the game wasn't terminated properly" so I let the game run the auto detect settings again, but instead of getting to 90% complete with my nvidia 870m it got to 60% where the program was getting 5-10 fps. I wondered how could this be? I went and checked the video settings tab, and found somehow my switched from my nvidia to my Intel 4600. I immediately tired running auto detect again but i got the same results.

I have spent most of my day trying to fix this I have done the following:
1) Restored my nvidia control panel to defaults and set Act of aggression to nvidia high performance processor
2) I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling 2 times
3) I have shut down the game from task manager prompting me with the message "the game wasn't terminated properly" where I tried to let use auto detect and load the last saved settings
4) I have tried to enter bios and disable my intel card, but my motherboard won’t let me do that because I don’t have the option

Any help would be much appreciated :)

My specs

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4810MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz
Video Card 1 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M
Video Card 2 Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
Memory 16 GB
OS Microsoft Windows 8 (build 9200), 64-bit

Are your drivers upto date? I have GeForce Experience installed. Sometimes it's game optimazation settings can be a little off. I think it's nice to have in just to make sure my gfx drivers are updated.

Normally to turn off the boards graphics card you have to tell it to use a "North' Or "South board. Which sometimes isn't in the Bios, but actually a PIN setting directly on the motherboard.

In your NVidia control panel, go to 'Manage 3D settings' then in your 'Global Settings' scroll down to 'power management mode' and set it to 'prefer maximum performance'.

This will make it so for games they will always run off your primary GPU instead of the intergrated one.

Well i have a msi laptop and if you've ever opened up a laptop i would need to disassemble a couple of parts to get to the motherboard and im not ready to take my laptop appart

I set perfer maximum performance and It still chooses intel over nvidia.

thanks for the suggestions I appreciate them :)

I'm sorry D: Didn't know it was a labtop. Hmmm... And sadly I don't have Windows 8 So I don't know if there is an OS setting.

Hi all,
Can you send me your DxDiag ?
The path to find the dxdiag :
1. Press the keys WINDOWS (bottom left) and R.
2. Type DXDIAG and click the button OK from the Run window.
A diagnosis will be executed then. After it's done, click on "Save all information" and save the DxDiag as text file (.txt). Open the text file and copy & paste the content into your post.
Cheers

well after finding how to disable my intel graphics card I tried to boot up the game and instead of switiching to my nvidia graphics card it changed to microsoft basic render so i have come to the conclusion that theres either a problem with the game or my nvidia software
brbrbr Jul 31, 2015 @ 11:39am
if you NV GPU switched to "basic rendere" there is problem with your OS installation or GPU drivers. as simplest idea - try uinstall Nvidia drivers, while keeping built-in GPu disabled, reboot. check thats traces of drivers removed and "basic miscrosoft driver/renderer" used, then try install Nvidia driver again, then re-boot and check again.

I've this problem too

(sorry for the bad english) same here. I can force it to use the right graphic card only by pluging in an external monitor to the hdmi port of my laptop. I noted that the display port of the laptop seems logically connected to the intel graphic card, while the hdmi port seem to belong to the nvidia card. however it is definitly a game error. this is absolutly no problem with any other game I run on my laptop. I think that the game tries to hard to force the graphics setting it thinks are righ for your card. Even with the intel card it should be possible to run it on medium settings, but as soon as I start a game it resets everything to the lowest setting. I personally do not like that, I want to choose the settings by my own, because sometimes I can live with some frame drops in exchange for a better look.

EDIT: I had a similar issue with only one other game, but the solution was to set the standard graphic card to the nvidia card in the nvidia settings for the game exe like it was suggested earlier in this thread. however, this does not work for act of aggression
