Demo Update – Patch 1.08.07

Hello everyone!
We’ve just released Patch 1.08.07 for the demo version of Step Into the Dark. This update focuses on polishing the experience, fixing critical issues, and adding new content. Here’s what’s new:

Changes

Gameplay

Prologue: Fixed a bug where the lever in the round gallery disappeared after death and reload, leaving the door locked.
Fixed an issue where old Prologue quests remained active after returning from the Arena.
Arena: Traders now correctly mark items as "private property" to prevent theft without consequences.
Prologue: After completing the quest to save Hans, he now moves from his position and reacts correctly.
Fixed an issue where the Mithril Fly would freeze after flying out.
Arena: Sabretooth no longer gets stuck in the basement near the entrance; camera works properly in dialogue.
Fixed "Shypach" behavior: now takes damage from thrown bricks.
Prologue: Fixed a bug with the quest behind the grate: it was previously issued and completed automatically despite being removed.
Fixed a bug where Marauders kept spawning shields on every hit.

Sound

Fixed stone footstep sounds: now correctly play stone SFX instead of dirt.
Fixed a bug with triple playback of player footstep sounds.
Fixed rat and Shypach sound propagation: sounds now come from correct sources instead of globally.

Graphics & Environment

Fixed objects without collision.
Returned some objects that fell through textures to their correct positions.
Fixed misplaced grass.
Prologue: Hans now sits in the correct pose.
Fixed incorrect icon for the black claymore (previously displayed as a shovel).
Updated 3D models of creatures: Shypach and Spider — replaced placeholder assets with original, detailed models.

New Features

Steam Achievements are now available! Explore the world and unlock achievements for various activities.

Hey everyone!

Development on Step Into the Dark is going full speed, and we’re not only creating new monsters - we’re also updating existing ones to match the game’s evolving art direction.
The first in line is the giant spider, now looking much more threatening and atmospheric.

Major Update: Prologue, Progression, Justice – 1.08

We’re back. And with a bang. Update 1.08.

This is the most significant demo update yet: laying the foundation for core mechanics, expanding the lore, and making the game more alive and intriguing.

New location – Prologue

Start your journey in the underground prison of Dummort – where it all began. Explore the eerie cells, uncover how you became part of this world. Now when you start a new game, choose: begin with the Arena or dive into the Prologue.

English localization and voice‑over

We’ve improved the translation and added English voice acting in the Prologue scenes—both main dialogue and ambient lines.

Progression & Skills system

Now you can develop your character:

– Earn experience from actions, combat, and quests

– Spend it at teachers for skill points

– Unlock your build with 15 skills, each with 5 mastery tiers—your freedom.

Justice & NPCs

– No safe zones: weapons can be drawn anywhere.

– NPCs react to illegal actions and can fight back.

– Loot fallen enemies.

– New Arena characters and quests: Sabretooth & Murky.

Inventory & Crafting

– Equipment now has durability—repair at workbenches.

– Expanded crafting: new recipes, tools, upgrades.

– Improved throwing system.

– Quick‑item slots depend on your bag’s quality.

Mini‑games

– Dice Poker – start your path to underground poker legend!

– Coin Flip – your chance to get a trader discount.

– Persuasion – a small mini‑game unlocking new NPC interaction options.

And Many More Improvements

We squashed countless bugs, enhanced UI & dialogue, updated NPC appearances to fit lore, and made combat more responsive.

Step into the Dark

Translation could use work

A lot of the dialogue isn't really understandable. The immersive sim/Elder Scrolls parts are really interesting though. I like the melee combat combat system thing.

whaaat? a proper use of imsim tag on steam?

unbelieavable! side note: i think cylinder locks of the type shown in the trailer are a pretty modern invention, like late 19th century. sure,"it's just fantasy" and anahcronistic stuff is ubiquetous there, but bethesda fallout lockpicking minigame just look kinda off to me in medieval setting anyway, good luck with the game...
