Game doesn't start
Just installed the game and when running it it doesn't even start (I got the store pop-up once as usually happens when closing a game). I cache'd the files and nothing. And before touching anything else i checked the game's folder to find crash report files such as

grimfandango_2117156_crash_2015_1_27T12_38_11C0

Any advice?

Updating my graphic card driver solved that issue for me. (and I still use my 6 years old graphic card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260) :)
Agent_Texas 28 ENE 2015 a las 2:21 a. m.
TLDR: Game wouldn't start for me either - updated my graphics driver and game is working perfectly so far.

LWV: (long winded version)

Found this tip somewhere along the way:

type "dxdiag" without qoutes in your RUN box and it will run your DircectX Diagnostics tool - go to the Display tab and it will have your video card Name -Manufacturer - and Driver Version, then go directly to the manufacturers site to see if there is a newer version and follow the boucing ball.. (My computer always told me I had the most up to date Display Drivers when I used its "Update Driver" function in the device manager display tab, my computer is a lying little rat).

Oh well, I guess it woulnd't be an "Authentic" Grim Fandango experience if I didn't have to struggle to get the game running. i.e. ScummVM - Cpukiller for the Forklift - ect .. ect... :) :)

I SOLVED this issue by forcing my computer to always use my NVIDIA graphics card for all programs. I think the game was trying to use my chipboard GPU.

Not sure what the procedure is for AMD but NVIDIA users can go to NVIDIA Control Panel, 3D settings, Manage 3D Settings, Global Settings, and under Preferred Graphics Processor, do not let it auto select. Select your graphics card and then click Apply.
Thx this worked for me :)

When I try opening the game, it shows "Preparing to Launch" but afterwards does not open the game.

Did this and the game was able to run. I only saw the intro cutscene briefly since i have some other stuff to do right now, so dunno if i'll have other issues.

Edit: Went a moment ingame for make sure all is fine and the game ran at 30-40 FPS. I configured it on windowed and now is fine.

A weird bug is that my system is in spanish but i prefer games in english so i changed the language. Then when i rebooted the game the character's first line was in spanish.

I am also having this problem, I am actually playing it off GOG but it's the same principle. Tried uninstalling and updating drivers, re-downloading and installing, disabling antivirus, running as admin. No luck :(

Tried the whole dxdiag thing and it still wouldn't work, I'm not able to install the newest version off of intel's website due to my computer.

Checked the log (which I'm going to email to the link), and it says I'm missing file saves/registry.sav. Did I accidentally download an illegal version of the game off of steam? lol

My problem is that I cannot install newer ATI drivers because they mess with my laptop's Radeon Mobility and the ones provided by ACER are too old. I'm kind of stuck here.
Any advice on how to get it to not crash? I'm on a mac, by the way. And save the whole "pc master race" thing becuase I really couldn't care less.

Hello DF Vic, thanks for your attention.

In my case, I follow your instrutions but don´t generate the log because when I click to play, nothing happening !

I Unistall, re-install in other drives but nothing. That´s my first game on Steam when I have some kind of problem. And I wait for a solution or reimbursement.

Hi everyone!

You may have already done this or seen this, but can you try to run with the -log enabled? This creates a log that shows where the game crashed and will help us figure out the pattern to these issues, especially anyone who has tried to troubleshoot without success.

1. Right-click game title in Library.
2. Properties.
3. Set Launch Options...
4. Type in "-log".
5. Launch the game.
6. Send us the "Grim.log" file generated in the game directory: support @doublefine.com
7. Find the game directory in Local Files > Browse Local Files...

I managed to get it to work for me! For me, if I tried to use the intel driver update, and it would tell me to get the drivers from my manufacturer's site. They weren't working, and I noticed they were last updated in November... so, I downloaded the up to date default intel driver, and installed that (I had to uninstall my current driver first, but that's easy using add or remove programmes) and now it works! I hope this helps anyone still having issues!

That did it for me, thanks! Here's hoping they fix it so that's not necessary.

That's not a bug. It's a game based on Mexican folklore - the game is full of Spanish.

Same here, no start and my Nvidia control panel doesn't have that "Preferred Graphics Processor" option
