FAQ and Known Issues
It's early, but figured we'd get this up now!

Many users are affected by the same problems that have potential solutions or workarounds, which is what this FAQ is all about. If you have read this FAQ and still can’t find an answer for your problem, do a quick search for other threads on the topic here. If that fails, too, then please post a new bug thread on the problem or email us at support@doublefine.com!

Reminder: always send your DXDIAG or OS equivalent when emailing support!!

We’ll think you’re the coolest if you provide us with the following when you contact us:

* A description of the issue.
* Save file in which the issue still occurs, located by right-click Grim Fandango Remastered > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files, inside the Saves folder.
* Your Steam System Information report, DxDiag, OS X system report, or equivalent document from Linux. We require the full report documents so that we can check driver dates.
* A log! See below for steps to obtain a log file.

My game is running very slowly/kind of laggy.

There are a few ways to improve performance:

* Go to Options > Graphics and Resolution Options
* Play in Windowed mode and resize the window to a smaller setting.
* Adjust Resolution Scaling to a lower setting.
* Adjust Advanced Lighting to a lower setting.

The game is doing something strange and random and glitchy and none of the specific things below help, what can I do?

Computers are fickle beasts and sometimes things go wrong. There are a few steps you can try that solve many of the random breakages that users encounter. If you post about an issue, very likely we’ll ask you to try one or more of these things first.

* Make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements.

OS: Windows Vista or later
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.4 GHz, AMD Athlon™ X2 2.8 GHz, or higher
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4650 / NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 / Intel HD 4000 Graphics, or equivalent
Hard Drive: 6 GB available space
Sound Card: Windows Compatible Card
Additional Notes: GPU that supports OpenGL 3.3 or higher

OS: OS X Mavericks or later

* Reboot your computer. It’s a simple thing but it’s amazing how many problems this solves.

* Update your drivers!

Always ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. A vast majority of issues will be resolved by this.

As good practice, you should usually grab your updates from your graphics device manufacturer. Here are the links below for the three most common ones.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/

http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

* Verify the Integrity of your Local Game Cache. You can do this by Right clicking on Grim Fandango Remastered in your library, choosing Properties, Advanced, and then clicking the Verify Integrity of Local Game Cache button.

* Remove and reinstall the game.

* Disable the Steam overlay in Steam > Settings > In-Game.

* Try deactivating heavy background processes like anti-virus or malware scanners. On some computers these programs are so demanding that they significantly interfere with games. If this doesn’t solve your problem, though, be sure to turn your scanners back on!

* Additionally you could help us by running the latest patch with logging enabled:
1) Right click on Grim Fandango Remastered in Steam
2) Select “Properties”
3) Click on “Set launch options…”
4) Type “-log” (one dash in front of log) in the text field and click “Okay”
5) Run the game
6) Locate the file “Grim.log” next to the executable (e.g. by browsing the local files in Steam)

Please send the generated log file and the specs (either Steam or DxDiag) of your machine to support@doublefine.com. Don’t worry about posting them here—it’s easier for us to track if you email.

Reminder: always send your DXDIAG or OS equivalent when emailing support!!

Where do I find the Grim Fandango Remastered save files?

* Steam: Right-click Grim Fandango Remastered > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files, inside the Saves folder.

My game won't launch on Linux!

There are a couple of things to try:

* If you are on a 64-bit machine, run this command in Terminal to get some missing 32-bit files: sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa:i386

* If you are on an AMD card, do not use the open source drivers. Those do not work for running Grim Fandango Remastered.

Remaster mode doesn't work! I have a black/blank background

Manually update to the latest video drivers.

If you are using Linux and on Intel graphics devices, update using the terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

My game won't launch on 4K resolution!

The game currently isn't supported in this resolution. Changing into a lower resolution should allow the game to start.

The skeleton pidgeons shadows are cast and flickering across the bread tent in mid air, making the game look very glitchy!

I had the black screen problem, I fixed it by downloading the latest drivers for my graphic card ( Intel HD 4000).
I can't enable the new lighting system tho, otherwise the game would run at 10 fps

Sorry, but none of those are fixing my Graphic errors. Which range from this:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=382510024

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=382202954

to animation errors (no screengrab because it's a animation)

you need to patch this stuff, it's not my fault but yours.

Why won't this game start for me? I bought it a couple of days ago and it's bugged. Do I need to restart my computer? Was so excited to play this with my gf on a snow day. Anyways...dissappointed

Double Fine, actually, you should work with the ResidualVM team to fix all the bugs. x)

I found many weird animations, missing musics and voices... things like that. =/

It doesn't happen with ResidualVM.

[Edit] First PS4 test, leaving the inventory screen :
Manny is still doing his weird fast animation at the end.

I expect to see the exact same bugs in the PS4 versions. ^^;

'do not use the open source drivers.'

Well, ♥♥♥♥.

After the last update the audio commentary is cut off all the time. Didn't have that issue before the update...
evert_k Jan 27, 2015 @ 9:34pm
I'm running this on OS X 10.10 on a macbook air. The cutscene was pretty smooth but then the game consistently crashes. I'm not able to get to the actual game content.

First time I could just kill the game, the next two times required a full reboot.

Hey! I have a PC and meet all the system requirements and the game won't load. I've tried validating the game cache and tried deleting that app file or whatever and still can't get it to load. It just says "preparing to load Grim Fandango Remastered" and then nothing happens. If anyone has a tip I'd really appreciate it! :)

Also got a bug with not being able to get into the car in the forest, after getting the heart back. btw, using x360 pad, changed to tank controls and still no dice.

Lost complete control over Manny. I'm at the beavers in the tar pits. I got rid of two of them, but now the controls have completely frozen and I can't even escape into the menu! NOOOOO

- Some videos are the same as before, with a lot of "jpeg" artifacts. I remember the "making of" talking about cleaning them...
- Some shadows are pitch black in remastered mode. For example, Year 1, when searching in Domino's drawers.
- After closing the inventory, Manny will have a weird really fast animation at the end.
- Closing and opening the inventory will show the next item in the list.
- Videos are english only : "One year later" was translated in 1998.
- Many objects and characters are darker than normal in remastered mode. For example, look at Maximino or the golden tickets in the suitcases.
- Some rare times, when opening the scythe, it will be invisible during the end of the animation.

Year 1

- In the land of the living, Manny open his scythe twice.
- Brennis still have broken mouth.
- Manny is still opening the door to the tubes engine very weirdly.
- Eva not commenting about the sound of balloons in the corridor.
- When leaving Domino's office through the window, we can see Manny through the wall.
- No little music after fleeing pigeons on the roof. Previous music restarts instead.
- Book given by Velasco still have low resolution texture in the inventory.

Year 2

- This black|green water isn't very pretty : {LINK REMOVED}
- Olivia teleporting left to right while talking to her.
- Unneeded loading screen when leaving the kitchen of the Blue Casket.
- Able to walk in the air, bridge walk zone may be shifted to the right : {LINK REMOVED}
- Remastered Membrillo have black bones.
- Remastered Maximino, Doug and his brother have black hands.
- Manny teleporting to the top of Toto Santos house before entering.
- Door to the VIP zone still don't want to open sometimes.
- Secret passage in the lift leading to wine barrels is black in remastered mode.
- Music restarts when going under the justice statue.

Year 3

- Missing music in the engine room with Glottis. Only running when close to a window and when pushing anchors buttons.
- Manny turned in the wrong direction when going to the right window.
- When using the jackhammer on the door to free Meche, during the explosion, the door down the hall is closed.

Year 4

- During the last goodbye with Chepito, Chepito has his head stuck to his right.
- In the inventory, soiled cloth still have pink borders instead of transparency.
- Glottis once turned three times on himself, next to the car bomb, I had to wait for him to stop doing that. I don't know how to reproduce.

I may edit my post later if I find anything new.
