Help with the petrified forest

I'm stuck on the part in the petrified forest where you have to topple the tree over, but I can't get the pumps on either side of the tree to work how they're supposed to. Putting the wheelbarrow over the hoses just causes the coresponding pump to stop working, not actually change the rhythm of the pumps. Can anyone tell me exactly step-by-step what I'm supposed to do here?? No walkthrough has helped.

I usually like adventure games, but this one has so far been the most frustratingly non-intuitive game I've ever played. :(

First you need to make the right pumps move at the same time. After that, make the left pumps move at the same time. If you put your wheelbarrow over a hose, it will stop. But If you pull your wheelbarrow down from the hose, it will start again. You just need to pull it down from the hose at the right time. Timing.

i moved the wheel barrow back and forth until it messed up and toppled over. May work for you too.

Good point: I only looked at readable walkthroughs, not watched any walkthrough videos---I've never liked those for some reason. Looks like for this game I'm going to have to do that, though. Thanks for the help.

What nocturne said, watch what happens with the pumps when you place the wheelborrow over the hose and remove it. Keep doing it until all of them are pumping at the same time, the tree will start shaking
