Report a translation problem
Disabling overlay resolved the issue. I use Rivatuner to read and display temperatures to display ingame. Disabling the OSD resolved the issue.
Problem solved for me in Windows 7 by running as administrator and adjusting compatibility
+ Point at Grim Fandango Remastered game in your steam library
+ Right click
+ Left Click on Properties
+ Left Click on Local Files on the tab on top of the dialog window
+ Left Click on Browse Local Files
+ Right Click on Properties of GrimFandango.exe file
+ Left Click on Compatibility Tab on the top of the dialog windo
+ Check run in Compat. and select Windows 7 (or other Win version - see below)
+ Check run as Administrator box
+ Right Click on OK and exit back to Steam
I assume this will work for Win 8.1 but I don't have a system to test it on
