That one song...
That one song that plays in the Rub-a-Mat at the end of year one. Does anyone know if its in the soundtrack or if one can find it somehow, if it is its own thing maybe someone knows the name of it?

Back when i played it as a kid i always loved that year transition as it went to Manny standing on the balcony to his casino,

The transition part is only a couple seconds long, not long enough to be its own song. It's definately not on the soundtrack. Pretty sure it's just the more mellow last few seconds of Blue Hector with some extra chords on top. Similarily, the transition AFTER year 1 into year 2 is a variation on the 'Casino Interior' theme with a little bit of the main theme. You can listen to both here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HX1_jwJR-Y

Nice coincidence, thats the same vid that i have been listening to for years just to hear that part but i kind of forgot about it after a while. For a while it became a bit of a "Coming home late Friday night from work"-thing.

This version of the song before the transition is simply brilliant. Might see if i can make those few seconds into an MP3 if i can find a good conversion tool.

Well the music in the Rubamat during the in-engine part of the cutscene is just Blue Hector playing quietly (so the really blasty trumpet parts aren't really noticible, also because they are talking over it. . .) As it transitions into the cg pre-rendered part where he is mopping, it adds those unique chords. So maybe try Blue Hector first?

If you were really ambitious you could probably take Blue Hector, line up where the Year 1 end transition starts and replace the original ending with that, and then you would have the song, with the ending that you wanted, and without the voices talking over it. Edit: IF the entire Rubamat song isn't a seperate variant of Blue Hector (it's really hard to hear, so I couldn't tell you), in which case at this point, its probably not possible to get without the voiceover. Music is complicated lol.

Yeah i got the soundtrack the other day. And i just realised why i did not hear it in any of the songs. Apparently my Left speaker was not working properly when hooked up to the woofer so it didnt register most of the chords so i thought it was just ambience. Fixed it now though so now i can actually hear what its all about. Thanks for pointing out that was the song, been looking allover for that.

No problem, glad I could help you find what you were looking for. =) Grim Fandango probably has my favorite soundtrack of any game. It shaped my childhood! Peter McConnell does some really awesome stuff. :glottis:

Indeed same here. I always liked this kind of music and back then i could always relate to Manny in so many ways. Peter is a real legend, what they all did with Grim Fandango was not only an incredible game but this is one of those rare masterpieces that will live forever.

Some of those moments in the game really had that kind of power that would strike a cord in ones heart and really feel with the characters. The sprouting of Lola was always moving and that constant feeling of "So close yet so far away" is pretty powerful in itself.

When Grim showed up on Steam it was an instant buy. Nothing can compare to the impact this game can have on someones life.
