Biglands: A Game Made By Kids

Biglands: A Game Made By Kids

I dont get it
Wow it was made by kids, lets all go ahead and buy it cause you know .... kids ...
Seriously I have no problems with kids finding theire way into the world of programming computer games early. What I dont understand is why anybody would go ahead and sell it then. There are thousands and thousands of flashgames out there with a higher quality and they are for free. Why would anyone bother to spend 0,99 bucks on this or even the ridiclious 5 you ask for this.
I think this showes what computergaming has become. 10 years ago theire where so many hobby programmers who made games for free for the sake of fun and because it was theire hobby. Nowadays somehow everyone thinks that he has to sell his small game he made.

The art and design is made by kids as the page clearly states, not the programming (duh). It's just a try at a different visual style, doesn't really take a genius to see that. And the game looks interesting. You're acting worse than a child which is ironic.

I really think it's one of those "a kid made it, give it some slack." games.

In which case I'd say, no. I'm not paying 5 dollars for this.

"made by kids" is simply a marketing tool to sell a game that took very little effort to make with the hopes of cashing in on people's feel goods.

Bet this game is still better than Final Fantasy 13.

Were the children paid for their efforts or can I assume that this is child labor?

I have a suspicion you are correct.

Ok, against my better judgement I'm gonna chime in here because I'm kind of a self-righteous prick. First off: Norajones or Norathen or whatever, before you criticize something "made by kids" maybe try to actually spell some ♥♥♥♥ right so you don't come across as jealous of said kids because they most likely spell better than you. And second....what's wrong with Final Fantasy 13? :squirtyay: It's got like sequels and stuff. That means it's good. Right?

Besides a 20 hour tutorial, annoying characters, story given to you in the form of a datalog as opposed to using the visual medium it was made in, being railroaded down a giant corridor, nothing!

Oh did I mention the story? Abysmal. Then they used that train wreck and made not one, but two sequels to it. At least they're making ff15 now. Set in the same world.

Why do so many of you think it's noteworthy that a game doesn't appeal to you? So, this game doesn't appeal to you based on the description or the screenshots. WHO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CARES. Go play/buy something that does appeal to you.

I guess you didn't understand my point. Its not that this game was made by kids. Hell, I used to program games too when I was 13. My concern is that I do not understand why anybody would feel the urge to ask for money for this game. As said there are tons of free flash games out there with a better quality then this one. It would be harsh to ask for 99 cents but 5 bucks is just way too much.
The game promotes itself by saying that it was made by kids. I think thats a weak argument because you shouldnt judge a game by whom made it. To me it appears as the kids "fact" is just there to exploit our feelings so we buy a crappy game that is not worth the money.

But that would make this game one of the best games ever made...

I'd like to live in a world where that statement was true. Unfortunately, in mine it's pretty much the opposite. It takes all the little annoyances that final fantasy has been developing over its existence and crammed it into one package and cranked it up to 11.

Thing is, Biglands is actually better than most AAA platformers nowadays. The kids put effort into it, and while it's obvious they didn't do the coding, they still put time into designing the game.

I don't see anything at all wrong with selling a product you make. So you would put time in to a project and release that project for free - most people wouldn't. I certainly wouldn't.
I love how 13/15 people in this thread don't own the game.

The thing i don't understand in these steam discussions is that people are always trying so hard to prevent people from buying a game THEY might like.

Instead of going to a steam forum of a game which they actually like they are going to the ones they don't like and try to convince others to dislike it too.

Why do you care so much about what other people might buy, who cares that it's $5, some people like to spend money on this instead of one of the 1000 "Pew-Pew-Bang-Bang" games out there.

Funny. :)
