Yep, we're already getting Clannad, but Kanon and Air actually hold a more special place in my heart due to them being the first two Visual Novels that I played.

I would actually say getting angel beats should be top priority, if they got a simultaneous release thing going on then that would be super awesome. Then there wouldn't be any more long waiting like I did/doing with little busters (ex/me still not translated brotha plz). I lost count of the YEARS I've waited for it. But its almost done now so they don't need to do it now I guess. I just hope they try to get AB and get started on it fast if they are thinking about it. They can take their time to translate it though. Plus they will hit the max hype level, the hype will ride off of japan a bit I think. Also if they get it early they can shut down any fan translation lol.

If they did air I would buy it but not play it lol. Kanon I want to play and really I could, not sure what I am going to do, read or wait, now that they are translating things lol. I had already read this game so really I just bought it and didn't really re-read it.

That would make a great deal of sense, but another option exists. If they could secure the rights from VisualArts/Key and negotiate a deal with the guys at Amaterasu to monetise their completed fan-translation (which, aside from one or two slight graphical glitches, is nigh-on perfect) then Rewrite is more or less ready to launch within a matter of months.

Considering Rewrite is debatably Key's best work to date, which is a huge claim given their history and pedigree, and doesn't have nearly the exposure it deserves in comparison to its predecessors due to its relative recency and lack of promotion outside of Japan up until this point, I would argue that it needs to be the next priority given how many would stand to benefit from it and how little time it would potentially take to get it up and running in comparison to needing to translate a whole game from scratch as Kanon, AIR, the multiple episodic releases of Angel Beats!, and potentially Little Busters! would likely require.

You do know that if VisualArts/Key has their games on Steam, it'll only contain the ALL-AGES Version of each one

Their all-ages versions are generally the best versions anyway, in my opinion. From what I've played of Kanon All Ages, the story doesn't really feel like it's missing anything. (And of course, CLANNAD never had a porn version to begin with.) Compared to, for example, the If My Heart Had Wings translation, which was closer to butchery of the source material than censorship.

Actually, Rewrite's translator, Ixrec, has received a lot of criticism from people who speak Japanese. I'd be careful about praising translations just because they look pretty good to someone who hasn't read the Japanese script.

Also, Rewrite certainly isn't Key's best work, IMO. It has a brilliant finale and lots of really good ideas and moments, but the overall planning is by far the worst I've ever seen in a VN. There are blatant continuity errors around every corner and colossal shifts in quality.

It's still a decent VN overall and would deserve a localization, but I'd prefer if SP retranslated it instead of relying on a translator as controversial as Ixrec. And given its huge length and the fact that some of the writing is supposedly really hard to translate properly, I think SP would be better off prioritizing Key's other titles first.

Really? I wasn't aware. If that's the case then fair point.

I guess that's just a case of opinion. I'll admit I'm somewhat biased by the fact that I truly enjoyed Rewrite the most and it contains my favourite characters so I'm more willing to overlook errors. I'd still love to see it sooner rather than later.

Wait, so it's hugely long, and very difficult to translate, a fan did it for free out of love for the game, and people on the internet who claim to speak Japanese got critical of him over it? They should just ask for their money back...wait.:tbpwink:

For all I read, saw or played from Key, I never even thought about >18 version of it. I believe that Key is known and praised for their stories, not for their porn.
Some things are much better without rule 34 :)

A lot of the people who dislike Ixrec claim that he makes tons of mistakes even in VNs that wouldn't be too difficult to translate. He also supposedly has a poor grasp on elaborate writing styles. Even I have to admit that I found some of the writing in Rewrite rather bizarre, even though its main writer, Romeo Tanaka, is very highly regarded. Long before Rewrite, Ixrec translated Cross+Channel, another one of Romeo's VNs, and virtually everyone who read the VN in Japanese agrees that he did a really bad job translating it. Even Ixrec himself isn't happy with it. Some people say he's improved since then, others claim his more recent translations aren't much better.

I don't speak Japanese myself though, so I can neither agree nor disagree with Ixrec's criticism. I do however think that it's important to keep in mind that his translations could potentially be a lot less accurate than they look.

I haven't read more than the first few minutes of Rewrite, so you have a better idea of the situation. You have to give the guy credit, though, for all these supposed speakers complaints, he's the one that actually sat down and did the work on it. It's too bad no one's come out with an improved patch to fix readability, though...
