Why do people on this forum use "brokie" so much?
I mean, I get what it means, but I'd never seen it before I came to this forum, and I keep seeing a bunch of people using it here.

What is it about this game that makes people use that word?

brokie alert

It sounds like Australian slang for broke. Which makes some sense, since the dev is from there and a large fanbase is possibly also from Australia

Too many beggars every day asking for a free copy of the game, since they can't afford a $20 game that is better than the AAA slop that they just bought for $70-$100+.

It's an easy way to categorize people who complain or have a lot of issues, since most of them are brokies
why not use the term brokie?

Please explain to me how this comment makes sense? I mean... I have the game...

Maybe I don't get what it means after all.

I figured it just meant broke, yeah, and the Australian connection's an interesting thought.

I still don't really understand why it's being used here so much, though.

Like, it's not as if I kept seeing people call others broke in non-Australian game forums.

I can understand it being used in that context, but it seems to be more than that, as with My Name Is Mud's reply above.

I also find it interesting that I've never heard it before, and suddenly it seems to be everywhere. Is it new slang?

So it's not just about being broke, but more generally just about anyone complaining about anything?

Not saying it shouldn't be used.

Just a bit confused because it feels like it just came out of nowhere.

Brokie is just a term used to describe individuals who can't afford something. That's all it really is. Why people use it, im not sure.

That's what I initially thought. So the mystery remains.

Pretty much. There is a direct correlation to people who are broke and people who complain/have a lot of issues. So, it's safe to just call anyone with a problem a brokie.
It makes them feel good about themselves trying to put other people down if I had to guess. Pretty funny that it's the only insult they can come up with not gonna lie

I get the bullying/trolling/denigrating aspect of it, but I'm still baffled by the fact I'd never heard it before, and so many people on this forum seem to favor the term.
