Maybe I don't get what it means after all.
I figured it just meant broke, yeah, and the Australian connection's an interesting thought.
I still don't really understand why it's being used here so much, though.
Like, it's not as if I kept seeing people call others broke in non-Australian game forums.
I can understand it being used in that context, but it seems to be more than that, as with My Name Is Mud's reply above.
I also find it interesting that I've never heard it before, and suddenly it seems to be everywhere. Is it new slang?
So it's not just about being broke, but more generally just about anyone complaining about anything?
Not saying it shouldn't be used.

I get the bullying/trolling/denigrating aspect of it, but I'm still baffled by the fact I'd never heard it before, and so many people on this forum seem to favor the term.
